The Redwood assists women and children to live and thrive free from abuse, homelessness, and poverty. Core services include a 35-bed emergency shelter, 24/7 access to counsellors through text, live chat and telephone crisis lines, employment initiatives to help survivors become economically self-sufficient, and anti-violence intervention and prevention counselling that Redwood caseworkers bring directly to survivors living in neighborhoods across the GTA.

Job Summary

The HOYO Case Management Clinician will provide mental health care that is child or youth centered, and trauma informed and ensure the security and safety of the care environment. Areas of responsibility include conducting assessments to understand the emotional, psychological, and social needs of children and youth, trauma counselling and wellness (both in-person and group settings), project development, therapeutic program design, case management, children & youth workshops with a focus on healing, violence prevention and the well-being and mental health of the shelters’ child and youth residents. They are also key players in developing intervention plans to address identified issues, such as behavioral problems, trauma, or family challenges

Duties and Responsibilities

Wellness and Therapeutic Counselling

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate mental health, emotional, and behavioral needs in collaboration with clients.
  • Responsible for providing therapeutic intervention services and programs to individuals and groups within The Redwood.
  • Counselling, case management, safety assessment and risk mitigation, delivery and evaluation, record keeping, development and delivery of one-on-one and group counselling plans with children and youth, survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Formulate accurate clinical diagnoses based on assessment findings.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to gather relevant information.
  • Respond to and manage crisis situations promptly and effectively.
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and support systems as needed.

Project Development, Facilitation and Management

  • Prepare project plans and budgets under the guidance of the Director. Program and Client Services, and the Executive Director.
  • Work effectively with project stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of issues, create strategies for change, and work alongside stakeholders to develop solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of best practices pertaining to program development and community-based, survivor-centred, culturally responsive wellness, training, and evaluation for children and youth programs.
  • Monitor program/project progress, ensuring that implementation is in harmony with the project/program specific plans, support evaluation, and report regularly on all activities.
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver training and education sessions, and provide consultative advice on gender-based violence needs of children and youth to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ensure all learning initiatives comply with The Redwood’s clinical, cultural, and ARAO competency framework as well as best practice and current standards of care, legislative regulations to ensure credible evidence-based workshops and other learning activities.
  • Develop and maintain materials for in-person learning activities.
  • Support clinical, cultural, and organizational change.
  • Participate in working groups and quality improvement initiatives led by external agencies that specifically address access to competent care for survivors of gender-based violence.

Additional Duties

  • Support the iDetermine digital helpline.
  • Maintain records and contribute to reports regarding the completion of planned activities and expenditures.
  • Produce and synthesize information to create high quality written materials in a variety of styles for websites, newsletters, data bases, media, etc.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by and agreed with the Director, Programs and Client Services and the Executive Director.

General

  • Work in accordance with a regulating professional body (e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario) with The Redwood Policies and The Redwood Case Management Practice Model.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, guidelines, routines, and requirements of The Redwood.
  • Abide by The Redwood’s Code of Conduct/HR Policies.
  • Punctually attend meetings and supervision. Fully participate in team discussions, sharing information and ideas.
  • Contribute to the building of a cohesive and motivated team that works in an environment that is flexible, adaptable, and open to continuous learning, unlearning and change.
  • Able and willing to work from a feminist and trauma-informed approach.
  • Understanding of Violence Against Women / Gender-Based Violence.
  • Able and willing to promote harm reduction practices and anti-oppression framework.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all the Redwood clients and organizational information.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgement and an ability to work independently.

Working Conditions

  • On-Site and Off-Site work requirements.
  • Must be available to work 5 days a week, including evenings and occasional weekends.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, child development, or related profession.
  • The successful candidate must be registered in good standing in their professional college (if applicable - e.g. College of Social Workers or related).
  • Possess a current Basic Life Support - B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate.
  • Two years of clinical experience; preferred experience with children & youth

Full-time (40 hours per week, onsite)
