Planet Watch is a youth‑focused climate learning hub that delivers clear, hopeful, accessible stories about our changing planet. Our online library is the centrepiece of this mission — a growing collection of climate explainers, news, multimedia resources, and learning tools designed to help young people understand the world and feel empowered to act.
We are seeking a Head Librarian to lead the development, quality, and strategic direction of the Planet Watch Online Library. This is the top leadership role within our library team.
About the Role
The Head Librarian oversees all aspects of content management, information architecture, analytics, and volunteer coordination. You will shape the library’s vision, ensure high editorial standards, and guide a small team of volunteer librarians and cataloguers.
This role is ideal for someone who loves organizing knowledge, improving digital content systems, and supporting youth‑friendly climate education.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic direction and long‑term development of the online library.
- Oversee content quality, metadata standards, taxonomy, and accessibility.
- Review analytics to understand reader engagement and guide improvements.
- Maintain a clear, intuitive library structure that supports youth learning.
- Collaborate with Communications, Learning Programs, and Technology teams.
- Champion inclusive, diverse climate storytelling.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in digital libraries, content management, or information architecture.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent writing, editing, and metadata skills.
- Passion for climate education and youth engagement.
- Ability to lead volunteers with clarity and encouragement.
Time Commitment
- 6–8 hours per week, flexible and fully remote.
- Monthly coordination meetings with Planet Watch leadership.
