The Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub demonstration project is a multi-disciplinary, collaborative initiative between the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre, and 11 partnered organizations. Through a “hub and spoke” model we will provide culturally safe and trauma informed services to individuals with complex health and social care needs. Services will include primary care and substance use care (continuum of treatment, recovery and harm reduction); mental health care and support services; supportive housing including shelter and transition beds; and social services including peer support, Case management, and employment supports.

The Employment Facilitator plays a vital role in supporting PARC members on their journey from volunteerism to meaningful employment. This role is centered on working with Member Volunteersby supporting them through exploring their interests, building confidence, and accessing opportunities within PARC or through external employment pathways.

The Facilitator will provide individualized support to help Member Volunteers identify their goals, develop job readiness skills, and build a strong foundation for employment. This includes delivering training, facilitating coaching sessions, and offering ongoing support throughout their volunteer and work experiences. The Employment Facilitator will work closely with members to help them achieve their volunteer and employment goals, fostering a positive and engaging environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one coaching and support to current and prospective Member Volunteers
  • Facilitate goal-setting and skills-assessment sessions to understand members’ interests, strengths, and employment readiness
  • Develop and lead engaging orientation and skill-building workshops, training sessions, and team meetings
  • Offer ongoing support and check-ins to ensure positive experience in volunteer roles
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to support volunteers success
  • Support Member Volunteers interested in transitioning to member employment or connecting to other community employment programs
  • Collaborate with PARC’s employment team to ensure coordinated and individualized support
  • Use a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach when completing needs assessments (e.g. OCAN) as needed

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years relevant progressive experience in direct service delivery to adults with serious mental illness/problematic substance use.
  • A relevant undergraduate education in a professional discipline pertinent to the role function and/or an equivalent combination of education and relevant progressive experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory, principles, and practices relevant to career transition, counselling, training, and development.
  • Working knowledge of current local economic conditions and labour market information across range of industry sectors.
  • Working knowledge of relevant employment legislation and labour standards.
  • Experience with vocational rehabilitation practice is considered an asset.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills honed through experience in conflict resolution, counseling, coaching, negotiation, and the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Sound judgement and ability to handle matters of a confidential, political and/or sensitive nature with discretion and tact.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to working within community development, anti-oppression, and anti-racist frameworks, including current issues and trends and the role that community-based organizations contribute to local neighbourhoods.
  • Knowledge of peer work and the value of peer contributions.
  • Understanding and analysis of the systemic nature of oppression, particularly the intersection of race, gender, sexuality, and class. Knowledge of, and experience in, the application of recovery principles, client-centered, harm reduction, trauma-informed and anti-oppression practices. This position requires a commitment to and a passion for social justice.
  • Must be able to use creative strategies to address systemic barriers/access community resources and improve the quality of life of people served.
