Hamilton Bike Share Inc. (HBSI) is looking for new volunteer candidates for our Board of Directors, the governing body that serves in an advisory capacity to guide the organization’s strategies, provide fiduciary oversight, and ensure compliance with the corporation’s bylaws.

About HBSI

HBSI is a local, not for profit organization that operates Hamilton’s bike share network. The network has over 1,000 smart bikes across over 33 square kilometers of Hamilton. The system is funded by user revenues, sponsorships, public and private grants, donations, and contributions by the City of Hamilton.

HBSI also funds and manages the Everyone Rides Initiative (ERI), a bike equity program that aims to remove barriers and increase access to bike share for marginalized communities in Hamilton. ERI uses an equity lens to identify and remove barriers related to access to local transportation choices through financial subsidization, access to adaptive bikes, education, promotion, and partnerships. Improving access to cycling improves communities who benefit from an affordable, convenient, healthy and environmentally sustainable transportation network that enables greater access to housing, employment, community services, increases social inclusion, and improves health outcomes.

HBSI is seeking individuals who are interested in making a difference within the organization and the broader community that our programming and operations serves.

  • Able to help shape the mission, vision and values of our organization
  • Available to meet approx. 6 times a year on a volunteer basis (meetings are typically on weekday evenings and <2 hours long)
  • Eager to share skills and abilities in a collaborative setting
  • Positioned to identify and connect staff with prospective community partners, including industry, real estate, and government
  • Interested in gaining experience and building new relationships within the equity, not for profit, cycling, and/or shared mobility spheres

Our organization is committed to equity and anti-racism. We seek to cultivate an inclusive team and welcoming governance environment. We encourage candidates of diverse identities to apply, including people who identify as Black, Indigenous, or racialized, people with disabilities, and people from the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
