Gutsy Walk is Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s signature national fundraising event celebrated on the first Sunday of June each year. Volunteers are essential in helping Crohn’s and Colitis Canada improve the lives of people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. As a volunteer, your impact will be felt by millions of Canadians today and for years to come.
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join the team of volunteers supporting their local Gutsy Walk.
Are you the right fit for the team?
- Adhere to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada policies and procedures, including the Volunteer Code of Conduct
- Work collaboratively with a team of volunteers to plan and promote your local Gutsy Walk.
- Acting as a role model by registering for Gutsy Walk and supporting fundraising, directly or indirectly (e.g., sharing ideas, promoting the event, or fundraising personally)
Ways You Can Support Your Local Gutsy Walk:
- Attend Planning Meetings: Participate in scheduled meetings to stay informed, share updates, and complete assigned tasks
- Community Outreach: Inspire participation by posting on community boards, distributing posters, and spreading the word locally
- Media Relations: Connect with local media outlets to promote the Gutsy Walk
- Social Media: Raise awareness about Crohn’s and Colitis and promote the Gutsy Walk through your own social media channels
- Sponsorship Support: Engage local businesses by sharing your story and presenting sponsorship packages (with staff follow-up support). Encourage donations, sponsorships, and gifts-in-kind by identifying potential contributors
- Networking: Build relationships with committee members, local community members, and participants to strengthen engagement and foster community spirit
- Event Day Support: Assist with tasks such as check-in, welcoming volunteers, and ensuring the event runs smoothly
This role involves virtual and/or in-person interactions.
Location: Local community across Canada (in-person) and virtual support as needed
Time commitment:
- Approximately 4–8 hours per month, including monthly committee meetings
- Additional meetings leading up to event day and a post-event wrap-up meeting
- Some daytime availability for distributing promotional materials, making phone calls, and responding to emails
- Evening and weekend availability may be required to connect with volunteers, sponsors, or community partners
- Overall commitment: Minimum 6 months

- Strong networking skills and willingness to connect with new people via email or phone
- An interest in inspiring community participation in Gutsy Walk
- Comfort approaching businesses and local media to secure partnerships, sponsorships, and coverage
- Familiarity with social media and online promotion
- Collaboration and teamwork skills
