Gutsy Walk is Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s signature national fundraising event Volunteers are essential in helping Crohn’s and Colitis Canada improve the lives of people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. As a volunteer, your impact will be felt by millions of Canadians today and for years to come.
We are seeking individuals passionate about making a difference in their community to join a team of dedicated volunteers in the role of Gutsy Walk Chair.
Are you the right fit for the team?
As the Gutsy Walk Chair, you will provide leadership and coordination to ensure your community’s event is successful and inspiring. You will work closely with staff and volunteers to build a strong team, drive participation, and reach fundraising goals, including:
- Adhering to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada policies and procedures, including the Volunteer Code of Conduct
- Leading and supporting the Gutsy Walk Committee to drive event participation and fundraising growth
- Maintaining regular communication with your staff partner to identify challenges, successes, and growth opportunities
- Supporting the management of the event budget and tracking expenses
- Collaborating with your staff partner to set agendas and lead committee meetings
- Establishing key timelines and monitoring progress to ensure all milestones are achieved on schedule
- Networking with other Gutsy Walk Chairs across Canada to share ideas and celebrate successes
- Participating in national webinar trainings to become familiar with tools and processes
- Acting as a role model by registering for Gutsy Walk and supporting fundraising, directly or indirectly
- Attending the Gutsy Walk and overseeing event success as a volunteer leader
- Ensuring adherence to the Gutsy Walk Event Standards
This role involves virtual and/or in-person interactions.
Location: Edmonton (in-person) and virtual support as needed
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 8–12 hours per month, including monthly committee meetings
- Additional meetings leading up to the event and a post-event wrap-up meeting
- Some evening and weekend availability required to support committee members
- Some daytime availability for phone calls and emails
- Overall commitment: Minimum 6 months
What you bring:
- Experience with leading a team, fundraising, event planning
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to organization and collaboration
- Flexible, open and adaptable leadership style
- Outgoing, friendly manner with a focus on relationship building and follow through
- Willingness to learn about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
- Proficiency with email, web browsers, and video calling applications (e.g. Microsoft Teams)
- Comfort with communicating with Gutsy Walk stakeholders through email, phone, and video calls.
