Call for Volunteers: Board of Directors (Finance & Development Focus)

About Us

Established in 1987, the Guelph Non-Profit Housing Corporation is the largest non-profit housing provider in Guelph. We own and operate 545 units across nine properties, working alongside the County of Wellington to provide safe, affordable community housing. By joining our Board, you directly impact the well-being of our community and help tackle the local housing crisis.

The Opportunity: A Transformational Phase

We are an active governance board entering an exciting period of organizational growth and renewal. Over the next year, the Board will be deeply involved in high-level strategy and oversight as we:

  • Onboard our new Executive Director
  • Develop a comprehensive new Strategic Plan
  • Navigate end-of-mortgage transitions for our properties

We are seeking dedicated leaders who are ready to engage in this critical governance work, build partnerships, and shape the future of community housing in Guelph.

Current Priority Profiles

To support our strategic goals, we are currently prioritizing applicants with the following backgrounds:

  • Professional Accounting (Primary Need): We are specifically seeking candidates who hold a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or have a similar licensed public accountant background to help guide our financial strategy during this pivotal time.
  • Housing Development (Highly Desired): We are also seeking individuals with hands-on experience in real estate development, particularly within the non-profit or community housing sectors. As we develop our new strategic plan, your expertise will be vital in helping us evaluate our long-term real estate strategy and explore potential future options.

Time Commitment

We are an active governance board. While our capable staff manages the day to day operations of our organization, we are in a critical stage as our organization develops a new strategic plan. This requires active participation from board members. We need board members who will consistently show up, prepare thoroughly, and help us envision the future of our organization.

  • Term: Directors serve a three-year term.
  • Time Commitment: Expect to dedicate 1 to 3+ hours per week. Members-at-large typically spend 1-2 hours weekly, while those on sub-committees are asked to spend 2-4 hours weekly. Board meetings are held monthly on the last Thursday of the month.
  • Expectations: Consistent attendance at regular board meetings and participation in a sub-committee is required.

Commitment to Diversity

We strongly encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and those with lived experience relevant to community housing.

How to Apply

If you are passionate about building stronger communities through community housing and have the capacity to dedicate to our active governance board, we invite you to apply.

  • Submit: Please email your resume and a brief cover letter to gnphcboard@gmail.com.
  • Deadline: Sunday, October 11, 2026.
  • Next Steps: Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview in October. Successful candidates will be invited to join the board at our November Annual General Meeting.

Thank you for your interest in supporting community housing in Guelph.

Sincerely,

Rodrigo
