Unpaid Volunteer Position

Role Purpose:
The Grocery Store Fundraising Ambassador plays a critical role in the execution of fundraising and awareness raising events in support of Food Banks Mississauga. If you are a dynamic and hands-on individual who has a passion for events, community engagement and making a difference in the lives of those affected by food security, this role is ideal for you.

Location:

Grocery stores across the city of Mississauga.


Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Management

  • Work collaboratively with fellow volunteers and staff to ensure smooth shift execution
  • Read training document ahead of shift to be prepared
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented attitude at all times

Administration

  • Accurately manage monetary donations collected during the shift
  • Follow established protocols for handling cash or electronic payments
  • Attend all required training and briefing sessions to ensure preparedness

Communications

  • Represent Food Banks Mississauga to the public in a warm, respectful, and knowledgeable manner

Planning & Execution

  • Assist with shift setup and teardown, including a-frame signage, and food bins
  • Operate assigned activity stations, such as games or engagement booths
  • Encourage attendee participation and promote fundraising activities
  • Support the overall flow and success of the shift through flexibility and initiative

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable engaging with the public and initiating conversations
  • Responsible and trustworthy with handling donations
  • Able to work on your feet for extended periods and lift light event materials (up to 25 lbs)
  • 18 years of age or older

Your participation directly contributes to the success of fundraising events and helps ensure that no one in Mississauga goes hungry.

Reports to: Community Partnership Coordinator

Time Commitment:

Commit to at least one 3 hour shift

Shifts will be:

Saturday, October 4 (10:00-1:00, 1:00-4:00)

Thursday, October 9 (5:00-8:00)

Friday, October 10 (5:00-8:00)

Saturday October 11 (10:00-1:00, 1:00-4:00).

Training provided:

All Grocery Store Fundraising Volunteer Ambassadors are required to read the training document and know your roles and responsibilities.
