About Us

The Local Charity is a volunteer-run Canadian registered non-profit charity based in Toronto devoted to creating diverse leaders of tomorrow. Our mission is to enable and inspire individuals to reach their greatest potential. Our goal is to empower them to be the author of their own story.

We are a lean operation run predominantly by volunteers with minimal overhead expenses.

Our sister brand is Success Accelerator, through which all our programs are delivered, supporting our main pillars of elevating and enhancing access to:

The Opportunity

We've recently unveiled a new brand identity and are building a social media presence from the ground up. We need a skilled Graphic Designer to bring this visual identity to life — across our digital channels, program materials, campaign assets, and physical merchandise (swag for program participants to acknowledge their growth).

This is a foundational role. You won't be stepping into a fully built creative machine — you'll be helping build it. That means creating the initial library of branded templates, designing launch-ready social assets, ensuring our brand shows up consistently across every touchpoint, and designing meaningful physical swag that our community actually wants to wear and carry.

If you care about getting the details right and want your work to have a tangible impact on real people, this one's for you.

Your Team

This role is part of TLC's Marketing & Communications team, which includes a Content Strategist & Copywriter (who owns the editorial calendar, content strategy, and marketing coordination), a Graphic Designer (you — creating branded visuals and templates), and a Community Manager (who builds relationships and engagement across our social platforms). Together, this team is responsible for building TLC's public presence, growing community support, and driving donor engagement.

You'll receive creative direction and briefs from the Content Strategist & Copywriter, who sets the editorial calendar and coordinates the team's workflow. You'll also collaborate with the Community Manager, whose engagement insights can inform what visual content resonates with the community.

What to Expect

We’re a small, collaborative team where every contribution is visible and valued. You’ll have real creative ownership—not just executing briefs, but shaping how our organization looks and feels to the outside world.

That said, this is a volunteer-run organization. We don’t have dedicated staff managers or a creative director overseeing every project. We’re looking for someone who can work independently, communicate proactively when they need input, and adapt as priorities shift. Our team uses Slack for day-to-day communication, Monday.com for task tracking, and Google Drive for file management.

Qualifications

  • Believing in our cause is mandatory 😃
  • Proficient in Canva (our primary design platform) - able to create templates and maintain brand consistency at a high level
  • Adobe Creative Suite is an asset but not required
  • Understanding of both digital and print design requirements, including file formats, resolution, and production-ready specs for physical merchandise
  • Ability to work within an established brand system — logo files, hex codes, typography, and brand guidelines are already in place
  • Eye for consistency across multiple platforms and formats simultaneously
  • Portfolio or samples showing brand implementation, template design, social media content, or print work preferred
  • Strong async communication skills (we use Slack and Monday.com).
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple updates simultaneously.
  • Understanding of both print and digital design requirements.
  • Portfolio or samples showing brand implementation, template design, or social media content preferred.
  • Familiarity with non-profit or cause-based marketing is an asset

What You'll Be Working On

  • Design branded social media graphics across five content categories — impact stats, participant stories, testimonials, community activities, and donation and CTA posts
  • Create approximately 12 launch-ready assets before our social campaign goes live
  • Build reusable Canva templates the broader team can use independently
  • Ensure brand consistency across our entire digital footprint — social media profiles, banners, headers, and all platform-specific assets for both TLC and Success Accelerator
  • Design physical swag — t-shirts, tote bags, hoodies, and other items — as part of the Success Accelerator community reward and gamification system, where participants earn merchandise by hitting milestones in our programs
  • Update existing materials to reflect the new brand across both print and digital formats
  • Support fundraising campaign visuals as needed
  • Organize and maintain a brand asset library for easy team access

A Note on Static vs. Motion Design

We recognize that static graphic design and motion design (Reels, animated graphics, short video) are often different skill sets. This role is focused on static design. If you also have motion/animation capabilities, that’s a wonderful bonus—but it’s not expected. We may recruit separately for motion content as our social media presence grows.

How to Apply

Qualified and interested candidates, may apply using the TLC|SA Volunteer Application Form, selecting Graphic Designer as your position of interest.

Note: This is a volunteer position. No financial compensation is offered.

We sincerely thank you for considering the opportunity to be a part of our Financial Empowerment Program. Your dedication to empowering individuals to take control of their financial future is invaluable. We are enthusiastic about the potential impact in the lives of our participants. Together, we can inspire meaningful change and pave the way for a brighter financial future for all.
