Grants Strategist
About Grantsimple
Grantsimple strives to be Canada’s go-to grant writing partner, helping charities and nonprofits navigate the grant landscape with confidence. We focus on strategy, research, and meaningful relationships to ensure our partners apply for the right grants at the right time.
We are data obsessed which is what we believe is missing from the grant landscape. We invest in deep industry insights and real-time research to try and uncover patterns that may go unnoticed, in order to better strategize and position each organization and their grant portfolios for maximized fundability. We don't have all the answers (yet), but we are committed to following the money, uncovering patterns, and lifting the curtain. Kind of like private investigators, but for grants.
Grantsimple Company Values
At Grantsimple, our values define how we work, how we support our partners, and how we show up for each other as a team. We believe in ownership, excellence, and taking action. Always striving to do things better, smarter, and more effectively. These values aren’t just words; they are the expectations we set for ourselves every day.
We Have an Owners Mindset
We operate with an owner’s mindset. That means taking full responsibility for our work, being accountable for outcomes, and thinking long-term about how we can improve processes, systems, and the company as a whole. We are always asking how we can better solve problems.
- Take ownership of your work and your results
- Think beyond the present. How can we make this better for the future?
- Act with accountability. Your work impacts the company, our partners, and your teammates
Anticipate Needs, Take the Lead
At Grantsimple, we go above and beyond. Always. We step into our partners’ shoes, understand their challenges, and anticipate their needs before they even realize them. We lead with confidence, always looking for ways to improve their experience and exceed expectations.
But this doesn’t just apply to partners, we do this for each other, too. Being part of our team means recognizing when a teammate needs support, offering help before they have to ask, and making sure no one is left struggling alone. We believe in taking on the heavy lifting, managing up, and making it easy for your teammates to work with you.
- Approach every task with the partner’s or team members’ perspective in mind
- Be proactive in solving problems before they arise
- Support your teammates—step in, offer help, and take work off their plate when you can
- Make things easier for the people around you by staying organized, communicating clearly, and anticipating what’s needed next
- Provide service and support that goes beyond what is expected
A great team is about lifting each other up, making things run smoother for those around you, and creating a culture where everyone can do their best work. We stand by this.
Make It Happen
We have a strong bias for action. Challenges are part of the job, but those who succeed are the ones who embrace them. We try, fail, learn, and grow, knowing that progress comes from action, not just intention.
- Problem-solve with confidence. Try things, test ideas, learn from mistakes
- Take initiative. Figure things out, take ownership, and don’t wait to be told what to do
- Follow through. Intentions are good, but actions and results are what matter
About the Role
We’re looking for a Grant Strategist to design and lead funding strategies for our partners. This role blends big-picture thinking with practical execution. You’ll craft tailored grant roadmaps for your portfolio of partners and then collaborate with our team to bring them to life.
As the primary point of contact, you’ll build trusted relationships, helping organizations navigate the grant landscape with clarity and confidence. You’ll act as project manager for their funding strategy, ensuring research, writing, and deliverables are completed on time and aligned with organizational goals.
This is not primarily a grant writing role. While you may contribute to applications as needed, your main responsibility will be to set direction, coordinate execution, and ensure partners feel fully supported, informed, and confident throughout the grant process and funding journey.
Who You Are
- Strategic first: You can see the bigger picture, connect the dots, and advise partners on the best funding approaches.
Curious: You’re insatiably curious, eager to learn, and ask the questions that uncover real opportunities. - Relationship-driven: You don’t just “manage” relationships—you invest in them.
- Resilient: You thrive under pressure, adapt quickly, and turn challenges into growth.
- Organized: You excel at keeping projects on track and ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.
- Communicative: You can translate complex processes into simple, actionable steps.
- Proactive: You anticipate obstacles before they arise and create solutions.
- Adaptable: You’re comfortable with uncertainty and confident in navigating change.
- Knowledgeable: You understand nonprofit/charity fundraising and how grants fit into bigger funding strategies.
What You’ll Do
- Develop customized grant strategies for a portfolio of 15-20 nonprofit/charity partners.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager and trusted advisor for your portfolio.
- Act as project manager to oversee the execution of strategies, coordinating deadlines, deliverables, and team collaboration.
- Refine funding strategies for partners, helping them align grants with broader fundraising goals and long-term sustainability
- Set and manage expectations—helping partners navigate realistic timelines, requirements, and fundraising strategies.
- Provide outstanding customer service by ensuring partners feel supported and informed at every step, while navigating different organizations, goals, expectations, and challenges. You take it all in stride and stay focused on the bigger picture—helping charities thrive in a challenging landscape.
- Monitor funding patterns and trends to assess opportunities, pivot strategies, and adjust approaches to maximize funding potential.
- Contribute to writing applications when required.
What Success Looks Like
- Partners have a clear, actionable grant roadmap & trust you as their advisor. They feel confident in the grant process because of your support.
- Deadlines are met and deliverables are executed seamlessly. You manage multiple projects with precision and clarity.
- Communication is clear and proactive. You keep both partners and internal teams aligned without anyone having to chase down updates.
- Partners feel deeply supported, confident, and engaged.
- You solve problems. Challenges are handled with a solutions-oriented mindset.
What We’re Looking For
- 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or grant strategy (e.g., grant writing, major gifts, mid-level giving, or donor relations).
- Experience managing external relationships.
- Project management experience (juggling multiple deadlines, priorities, and stakeholders).
- Exceptional communication skills—you can break down complex ideas clearly and concisely.
- Comfort with ambiguity. You thrive in a role where you make informed decisions, adapt to changing priorities, and confidently navigate situations where not all answers are clear upfront.
- Strong tech skills in Google Workspace, project management tools, online portals, and spreadsheets.
- An understanding of nonprofit operations and fundraising principles.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, remote environment.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented approach—you take ownership and make things happen.
What You Should Know About Working With Us
- We’re a fully remote team. You’ll need a reliable internet connection and your own computer.
- We operate in EST but offer flexible working hours as long as there’s overlap.
- This role is for a self-starter who takes full ownership of their work. If you see an opportunity to improve something, we encourage you to take initiative.
- We’re growing fast. No two days are the same, and we adapt quickly—if you love structure with little change, this may not be the right fit.
- Room for Growth: We’re a young and fast-growing company, which means your role will grow with us. As we expand, you’ll have the chance to take on more leadership, shape new processes, and influence how we serve partners.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $64,000–$70,000 CAD
Benefits: Health & Wellness Spending Account
Remote work: Work from anywhere in Canada (some travel may be required for partner visits)
Paid Time Off: 3 weeks vacation, 5 sick days, 2 personal days + your birthday off
