GIS Data Analyst
Regernative Design Ltd. is looking for an independent contractor who specializes in GIS and coding for a 6-month, part-time contract position until the end of 2026. The ideal candidate will have experience with cumulative effects frameworks, monitoring and evaluation, and First Nations governance.
Duties
- Provide technical support for the development of an Indigenous-led cumulative effects framework, including spatial data analysis and programming (Python) for modelling and scenario development.
- Lead the technical build of the system, with direction from the Project Manager
- Provide support for the development of a data inventory and gap analysis
- Assist with warehousing spatial data for the client, enterprise management, and keeping spatial information coming from other sources up to date in the client’s system
- Support the development of a current conditions assessment using spatial analysis
- Conduct spatial analysis to build suitable feature layers and maps to support the framework
- Develop code to integrate spatial and a-spatial information into R to automate aggregation and analysis steps
- Assist with the design of an output for the system that supports a decision support tool for the client
- Engage with the client’s expert team and present to them for deliberation and decision-making
Provide mentoring and training to the client to embed the system in their processes
Required skills
- Proficient in the ESRI work environment, including ArcPro and ArcGIS Online
- Experience working with First Nations and First Nations governance, ideally on mapping, monitoring, or other land-based projects
- Experience with inventory and warehousing of spatial and a-spatial information
- Experience with building a cumulative effects framework, including working with various types of quantitative and qualitative indicators and data sets and modeling thresholds, triggers, and scenarios using GIS and R-script or Python automations.
- Programming experience, including the ability to build data aggregation, analysis and modelling scripts.
- Great cartographic/design skills
- Experience with remote-sensing
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills and experience presenting complex designs to audiences so that they understand them.
- Ability to work remotely and collaborate with a small team online
- A systems thinker who understands adaptive management concepts and environmental design
Position Criteria
- This is a freelance contract position
- Contractor provides all their own software
- Can work remotely from anywhere in Canada
- 15-20 hrs/week between 830-530 pacific time
- $75 - $85/ hour depending on skills and experience
- Ideal start date is June 1st and end date of December 31st
- May require limited travel for in-person meetings within Canada
- Contract may be extended
