Girls Empowerment Program Coordinator

Youth Assisting Youth is seeking a Girls Empowerment Program Coordinator for our Girls Empowerment Program. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with a proven background in developing and facilitating Girls programming. The successful applicant will coordinate and facilitate an after-school and/or virtual program for Girls only in the Toronto and York Region communities.

The position responsibilities include: to successfully initiate, promote, coordinate, facilitate and evaluate revolving 8-10 week Girls Empowerment Program sessions that each feature the following structured components: Gender-Based Violence, Gender Stereotypes, Bullying, Health & Fitness, Mindfulness, Healthy/Unhealthy Relationships; Diversity, Being a Leader, Substance Abuse, Self-Image, Social Media Literacy and Violence & Abuse. The project includes group discussions, recreational and arts-based activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiate, organize, coordinate, facilitate, operate and evaluate the Girls Only Program
  • Liaise with local Toronto organizations and community partners for the purposes of outreach and collaboration
  • Design and produce promotional and outreach materials
  • Identify and screen potential female youth participants and volunteers
  • Provide direct leadership to all participants that are registered for the program
  • Have the knowledge, skill and proven experience to facilitate discussions on the workshop topics listed above, including Gender Based Violence and empowerment programs
  • Research and confirm additional workshop guest speakers
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshop presentations
  • Conduct comprehensive program evaluations which will include progress reports, assessment surveys and questionnaires for all participants
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records in iCARE, and log all outreach activities and outcomes in Google Sheets and Google Maps
  • Supervise program volunteers and placement students
  • Provide positive role modeling and mentorship to the children and volunteers in the program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have a diploma or degree in child and youth services, social work, recreation and leisure services or related field
  • Have at least two years’ experience working directly with youth, especially Girls, 6-18 years of age
  • Have demonstrated experience and expertise in a variety of sports, recreation and leisure activities
  • Have a background/proven experience and awareness of the challenges that young Girls face today
  • Demonstrate good organizational and facilitation skills and have proven budgeting experience
  • Have experience in managing youth/adult volunteers
  • Be able to take initiative, be energetic and have a positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Display strong leadership and interpersonal skills in a group setting
  • The ability to speak a second language will be considered a strong asset
  • Be able to complete tasks as assigned
  • Must have clearance of a Police Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Screen
  • Must have a current First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Must have access to an insured personal vehicle and have a valid Ontario driver's license

This is a full-time contract position (35 hours per week), with a pay rate of $27.50 per hour.

Youth Assisting Youth is a non-profit, charitable organization servicing the GTA and York Region. The agency matches Youth volunteers aged 16 – 29, to a one-on-one relationship with newcomer and at-risk children aged 6 to 15, who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioural or cultural adjustment difficulties. The goal of the program is to provide a child with a positive role model through a mentoring relationship (Match) with a Youth volunteer.
