Environmental Defence Canada has just launched a new volunteer program, and we want you to get involved! Whether you’re interested in supporting in-person events, educating folks through social media, or advocating for change with your MP, MPP, or local councillor, we have a variety of in-person and online volunteer opportunities on our new portal: Vome. Apply to become a volunteer today!

Who We Are:

Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) is a leading Canadian environmental

advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to

defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. We work to safeguard Canada’s freshwater, stop urban sprawl, get toxic chemicals out of the products we use, clean up plastic pollution and transition Canadians from using dirty fossil fuels to modern, clean energy.

About the Role:

Your role as an EDC Volunteer will vary depending on which opportunities you choose to support. There will be opportunities to help out at in-person at events, like clothing swaps and movie screenings, or remotely, such as hosting an “Eco-Conversation” with your friends and family.

When you fill out our “New Volunteer” application form, you will be added to our volunteer database. Once approved, you will be able to see and apply for new opportunities posted on Environmental Defence Canada’s Vome homepage. You will also be automatically alerted to new volunteer opportunities as they arise, but have the flexibility to choose only those that are of interest using the “Current Volunteer - Opportunity Registration” form.

If you are interested in particular environmental issues, think of Vome as our “one-stop shop” for all future volunteer postings! There will be opportunities to take action in different areas, like plastic pollution, clean water, liveable communities and climate change.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities will vary depending on which opportunity you choose, but could include helping out at events like clothing swaps or movie nights, hosting community conversations about environmental issues with your friends and family or contacting your local MP or MPP to advocate for an environmental issue.

Skills and Experience:

Skills and experience you gain could include public speaking, community engagement or event coordination. Some of our opportunities will be open to high school students who need volunteer hours for credit.

Location:

Remote opportunities take place in your own home or community. In-person opportunities will take place in Toronto, Ottawa, locations in southern Ontario, Calgary or Edmonton. Location specifics are always listed on each opportunity application.

To Apply:

  1. Visit our Vome homepage
  2. Click “Get Involved”
  3. Create a Vome Account
  4. Complete the New Volunteer application form

You’ll hear from us as soon as your application has been approved. Once you have been approved and added to our volunteer database you will be notified about – and eligible to apply for – new opportunities as they are posted. Visit our Vome homepage anytime to find out what’s new.
