Company Overview

The Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre (GBCSC) is a non-profit, community-focused organization whose mission is to provide emotional, physical, social, spiritual support, education and information as a complement to the medical system for people affected by cancer. With a growing membership base of over four hundred individuals living in a large geographical area, we strive to deliver programs and services that meet the diverse needs of our community at every point throughout their cancer journey. We are funded almost entirely through grants, and the generosity of donors.

In early 2024, the GBCSC embarked to expand services across more of South Georgian Bay, launching cancer support programming in Collingwood, ON. Since that time, additional services have been introduced in Collingwood, along with fundraising initiatives to support our continued growth. This pivotal role in the growth of the GBCSC will be central to establishing an ongoing, sustainable presence in Collingwood.

Position Overview

The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre in Collingwood, ON. The General Manager will lead a team of volunteers and staff to deliver programs and service, build awareness in the community, and undertake fundraising initiatives. As a relationship manager, they will connect with stakeholders throughout the community to garner support for the growth of the GBSC’s impact in the area, and build partnerships aimed at enhancing local cancer support resources. This person will report to and be supported by the Executive director, based in Penetanguishene.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Provide leadership to staff and volunteers of the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre’s Collingwood operations, including within various committees and working groups.
  • Practice and promote a positive and collaborative culture for staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Manage volunteer and staff training initiatives
  • Act as the primary decision-making authority for operations of GBCSC in Collingwood

Program and Service Management

  • Research trends and best practices in relevant fields in order to meet the needs of the GBCSC’s target population, including cancer patients and caregivers.
  • Develop and implement the program and service schedule.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and retain program and service providers
  • Manage all contracts necessary for the facilitation of programs and services, including with individual program providers and partner organizations
  • Foster a welcoming environment for existing and prospective members and visitors of the GBCSC, and actively work to grow participation and membership
  • Complete intakes with new members, and ensure proper account updates follow-ups

Fundraising and Outreach

  • Oversee all fundraising activities carried out by the GBCSC in the assigned region
  • Actively engage members of the community, cultivating relationships with existing and prospective supporters
  • Maintain positive relationships with service clubs, local government officials, and other stakeholders
  • Provide leadership over fundraising campaigns and events

General Administration

  • Work with bookkeeper to facilitate payment to staff, contractors, suppliers, and other relevant payees
  • Maintain relevant policies, procedures, and training materials
  • In coordination with the fundraising manager, maintain accurate records of all donations and payments made to the GBCSC in Collingwood
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions and ongoing training for staff and volunteers.

Other Responsibilities

  • Act as an ambassador within the community of the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre
  • Advocate for the advancement of local cancer support resources
  • Carry out other responsibilities deemed necessary for the productive operations of the GBCSC in Collingwood.

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary degree in relevant field of studies, including business administration, recreation therapy, or social work, or an appropriate combination of education and work experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar professional environment, preferably in a leadership capacity within the non-profit or social services sector
  • Experience in fundraising management would be a definite asset
  • Ability to legally work in Canada
  • Access to reliable transportation

Relevant Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes

  • Knowledge and expertise in program development and management
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office. Experience using fundraising and member CRM systems an asset.
  • Familiarity with the Not-for-profit Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
  • Skilled in delivery of presentations, both live and through virtual platforms
  • Exceptional customer and client services skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to delegate responsibilities as needed
