ROLE OVERVIEW

Fundraising & Grant Writing Coordinator

About Us

The Volunteer Well is a Canadian non-profit focused on making support easier to give and easier to find. We connect people who want to help with individuals and communities who need support, creating spaces where generosity, dignity, and human connection can thrive. You’ll also have opportunities to build experience in areas such as digital marketing, corporate relations, finance, program coordination, and operations, depending on your interests and availability.

Our work centers on reducing barriers to volunteering and access to resources, particularly for those facing systemic challenges such as women, seniors, newcomers, low-income individuals, and other marginalized groups. Through community-driven programs, events, partnerships, and advocacy, we help people feel seen, supported, and connected.

At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: when people are given the opportunity to share their skills, time, and care, communities grow stronger — and everyone benefits.

What You’ll Be Doing

As our Fundraising & Grant Writing Coordinator, you’ll help us secure the funding that keeps our programs alive and growing.

You’ll look for grants and sponsorship opportunities.

You’ll write proposals that clearly tell our story.

You’ll help us think creatively about how to bring in revenue.

You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll collaborate with leadership and the finance team to make sure funding efforts match real program needs.

If you like research, writing with purpose, and seeing your work directly support community impact — you’ll find this role meaningful.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your availability, you can be involved in some or all of the following:

Research & Opportunity Spotting

● Find grants, sponsorships, and funding opportunities that align with our mission.

● Stay aware of trends and new funding streams.

● Assess which opportunities are realistic and strategic for us.

Grant Writing & Proposals

● Write clear, compelling grant applications.

● Match proposals to funder guidelines.

● Track submissions and support reporting requirements.

● Help shape strong concept notes and funding pitches.

Fundraising Strategy Support

● Explore additional revenue ideas — corporate partnerships, events, donor campaigns.

● Suggest practical ways to secure larger commitments.

● Support tailored fundraising initiatives that align with our goals.

Donor & Community Engagement

● Help develop thoughtful donor stewardship approaches.

● Support communications that keep funders engaged and informed.

● Contribute to messaging across newsletters, social media, and website content.

Financial & Data Coordination

● Help track revenue sources.

● Support organized record-keeping of contributions.

● Ensure funding data is accurate and up to date.

You can shape the scope based on your time and strengths. This role is flexible.

Why This Role Matters

If this role is filled:

● More programs get funded.

● More families receive support.

● More volunteers get connected to meaningful opportunities.

● We become financially stronger and more sustainable.

● We can plan ahead instead of reacting.

If it isn’t?

● Opportunities get missed.

● Funding deadlines pass.

● Programs may shrink instead of grow.

Your work helps turn possibility into stability.

What You’ll Grow & Gain:

If you serve in this role for 6–12 months, you’ll likely:

  • Strengthen your grant writing portfolio.
  • Build confidence in institutional fundraising.
  • Learn how nonprofit finance and programming align.
  • Develop donor communication and stewardship skills.
  • Gain experience in revenue strategy and funding pipelines.
  • Build references and professional credibility in the nonprofit sector.
  • See your writing directly translate into real-world impact.
  • You’ll leave with tangible experience — not just a title.

Your Professional Development & Experience:

  • Practical, hands-on experience within a community-focused non-profit.
  • Professional references based on meaningful involvement.
  • A clearer understanding of your strengths and interests in community and non-profit work.
  • You’ll make a tangible difference in your community while contributing to a cause that promotes inclusivity, connectivity, and support for those who need it most.

What We Are Looking For

● You enjoy research and structured writing.

● You can translate impact into clear, persuasive language.

● You’re organized and comfortable managing deadlines.

● You’re curious about nonprofit funding and sustainability.

● You care about equity and inclusive community-building.

You do not need to have decades of experience.

If you’re motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to learn — we can build from there.

Lived Experience and Diversity Statement

The Volunteer Well is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. We encourage applications from Indigenous, Black, racialized, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities, women, newcomers, persons with disabilities, low-income families, and other equity-deserving groups. We recognize that lived experience is a valuable asset and will be considered where applicable to the role.

If you feel drawn to this opportunity and believe your skills and perspective could support our work, we welcome your resume at hr@volunteer-well.org.
