Background

The Nunavut Association of Non-Profit Organizations (NANPO) was incorporated in March 2021 with the objective of advancing the interests of non-profit organizations with operations in Nunavut, increasing communications between them, and addressing issues that collectively affect them.

Mission: Guided by the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principle of piliriqatigiinniq/ikajuqtigiinniq (working together for a common cause), we share knowledge, build capacity, and amplify our voices to create a stronger and more unified non-profit sector. We build public knowledge of the essential role non-profit organizations have in Nunavut and advocate for the sector’s needs so that they can do their vital work more efficiently and with fewer barriers.

Vision: A strong, resourced, and connected non-profit sector, recognized and valued as an essential contributor to the well-being of Nunavummiut.

NANPO currently represents over 90 member organizations across Nunavut, ranging from grassroots community groups to territorial service providers. Our members work in areas such as food security, social services, arts and culture, recreation, and wellness. As the collective voice for the sector in Nunavut, NANPO strengthens connections between non-profits, governments, and funding partners, while also providing training, resources, and advocacy to build capacity across the territory.

The new team is working together to guide the organization through its next phase of growth—expanding member services and increasing the value of membership, deepening relationships with partners, and ensuring that Nunavut’s non-profit sector has the tools, resources, and representation it needs to thrive. The job description below outlines the role of the Fundraising Coordinator in supporting the organization's efforts. This position is a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension, assuming funding has been sourced to finance the position at that time.

Position Overview

The Fundraising Coordinator supports the planning, coordination and execution of fundraising initiatives that help advance NANPO’s mission. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, curious and passionate about strengthening the non-profit sector. The Fundraising Coordinator plays an important role in building fundraising capacity across member organizations, and the successful candidate will help share knowledge, tools and resources that support non-profit leaders in developing the skills and confidence needed to raise funds for their organizations.

Working closely with the Executive Director, the Fundraising Coordinator helps strengthen NANPO’s impact by supporting sustainable funding, improving access to funding opportunities, and contributing to the long-term success of Nunavut’s non-profit sector.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Financial Management Support

  • Identify potential funding opportunities for NANPO and its member organizations, including government, foundation, and corporate funding sources.
  • Coordinate timelines, materials, and communications related to grant applications and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support the development and submission of funding proposals to secure sustainable funding for programs and operations.
  • Assist with developing project budgets, financial reports, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the accounting team to ensure financial information is shared accurately and on time.

Research & Proposal Development

  • Research operational and project-based funding opportunities from government, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Identify new initiatives or projects that may be eligible for funding support.
  • Support the development of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and other funding materials.
  • Maintain organized records of funding opportunities, application timelines, and submissions.
  • Contribute to expanding NANPO’s funding opportunity database for the benefit of member organizations.

Mentorship, Coaching, & Knowledge Sharing

  • Provide guidance and practical support to organizations seeking to build their fundraising capacity.
  • Share tools, templates, and resources to help non-profit organizations develop effective fundraising practices.
  • Support learning opportunities such as workshops, training sessions, or information resources related to fundraising.
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing among member organizations.
  • Promote best practices in donor stewardship, grant writing, and sustainable fundraising.

Data Tracking & Reporting

  • Maintain and update a database of private and public foundation funding opportunities.
  • Track funding applications, deadlines, and outcomes to support organizational planning and accountability.
  • Contribute to reports, funding proposals, and strategic planning activities that advance NANPO’s mission and vision.
  • Identify opportunities to improve fundraising data tracking and reporting systems.
  • Recommend tools or processes that strengthen organizational accountability and decision-making.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, fundraising, marketing, non-profit management, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fundraising roles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Data management and reporting skills
  • Attention to detail and time management
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector and funding landscape
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • * Other lived experiences, education, and skills will be considered in lieu of formal education and related work experience

Assets

  • Experience in Northern and/or remote communities is a strong asset
  • Interest in training, teaching, and working with others to share knowledge
  • Inuktitut communication skills (verbal and/or written)
  • Direct experience working with Nunavut organizations (at any stage of development)

Benefits

  • Salary of $80,000-90,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Northern Living allowance $15,000 (for candidates based in Nunavut)
  • Flexible working conditions
  • Ability to work fully remote
  • Some travel within Nunavut and southern Canada is expected.
