Compensation: Starting salary range of approximately $30–$35 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Work Arrangement:
This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with scheduled in-office meetings, event attendance, and community engagement activities as required.

Beyond the Blue Box is one of Canada’s longest-standing community-based waste reduction and reuse centres, serving Northumberland County for over 34 years.
Operating two busy retail locations in Cobourg, the organization diverts reusable goods from landfill while supporting environmental sustainability and community well being.

Position Summary
Beyond the Blue Box is seeking a Fundraising & Communications Coordinator to support and strengthen its fundraising, donor engagement, and community outreach efforts.
This role works closely with the Executive Director while supporting the volunteer Fundraising Chair and committee. The successful candidate will help plan and implement fundraising strategies, develop communications materials, and build relationships with donors, partners, sponsors, and the broader community.
The ideal candidate will play a vital role in securing donations, advancing organizational goals through community engagement, and helping strengthen long-term donor relationships through effective outreach and stewardship.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are self-directed, organized, collaborative, and able to move projects forward with initiative and minimal supervision.
This is a contract position with the potential for renewal based on organizational needs, funding, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, coordination, and administration of fundraising activities and budgets
- Develop and execute fundraising campaigns, including online, direct mail, and community-based initiatives
- Research, write, and submit grant applications to government, corporate, and foundation funders
- Assist with the planning and coordination of fundraising events, sponsorships, and donor initiatives
- Develop donor communications, including newsletters, impact updates, social media content, and annual reports
- Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and stakeholders
- Collaborate with volunteers, including supporting the Fundraising Chair and fundraising committee
- Assist with donor tracking, stewardship activities, and fundraising reporting as required
- Manage and maintain donor databases and fundraising records to track contributions, donor engagement, and interactions
- Conduct research on prospective donors, sponsorships, grants, and funding opportunities to help expand organizational support
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and volunteers to develop compelling messaging and promotional materials for fundraising campaigns and outreach initiatives
- Provide exceptional donor and stakeholder stewardship through responsive communication and relationship management
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in fundraising, communications, grant writing, or a related non-profit role preferred
- Demonstrated experience in grant writing and fundraising campaign development
- Experience working with volunteers and community-based organizations is considered an asset
- Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge or similar platforms is considered an asset

- Proven ability to cultivate and maintain positive long-term donor and community relationships
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, community-based environment
- Collaborative approach to working with volunteers, staff, leadership, and community stakeholders
- Commitment to inclusion, equity, environmental sustainability, and community impact
Working Conditions
- Reports directly to the Executive Director
- Hybrid work environment with a combination of remote and on-site responsibilities
- Regular attendance at Beyond the Blue Box locations, meetings, community events, and fundraising activities will be required
- Works closely with volunteers, staff, and community partners
- Some evening and weekend work may be required for events and campaigns
