About LandSeed

LandSeed is a non-profit organization tackling the Canadian housing crisis with a unique, data-powered approach. We bridge critical gaps in the housing ecosystem by integrating deep community market data with advanced AI systems. Our focus is on crowdsourcing and identifying obstacles to attainable affordable housing, allowing us to deliver structured, scalable solutions where they are needed most.

Our Commitment: We are driven to uplift those in housing ownership need, including first-time homebuyers, seniors, immigrants, single parents, environmentalists, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Our vision is to pioneer data-driven designs and value structures for entry-level housing across Canada.

Job description

LandSeed is seeking a seasoned fundraising and capital development professional to help design and lead our fundraising and capital strategy during a critical growth phase.
This role is intentionally structured as part-time and commission-based, with a clear pathway to a paid leadership role as funding stabilizes. It is especially well suited for individuals in the later stages of their careers, near retirement, semi-retired, or post–full-time executive work, who still want to contribute meaningfully, stay engaged, and generate income through impact-driven work.
This is a senior, ownership-oriented role with real influence over strategy, relationships, and outcomes.

Our Working Context

You will be collaborating with a small group of experienced executives who are in the later stages of their careers and have chosen to focus their time and expertise on work with real social impact.

Many of us are here because we are motivated by purpose, legacy, and the opportunity to apply what we’ve learned toward meaningful change, particularly in housing, community development, and long-term equity.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Capital Leadership

  • Lead fundraising efforts across grants, philanthropy, and mission-aligned partnerships
  • Personally engage in relationship-building, outreach, and closing
  • Identify both near-term funding opportunities and longer-term capital pathways

Strategy & Positioning

  • Design a realistic fundraising and capital strategy aligned with LandSeed’s stage and capacity
  • Help refine narrative, positioning, and funder alignment
  • Advise on sequencing: what to raise now vs. later

Systems & Accountability

  • Establish lightweight fundraising systems (pipeline tracking, reporting, metrics)
  • Coordinate closely with leadership on budget, runway, and growth implications

Growth Path & Leadership

  • Work directly with the Executive Director
  • Help shape the long-term structure of fundraising within the organization
  • Transition into a paid, salaried or stipend-based leadership role as funding milestones are met (if mutually desired)

Who This Role Is For

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has 10+ years of experience in fundraising, development, or capital strategy
  • Has personally closed grants, major gifts, or institutional funding
  • Is near retirement, semi-retired, or no longer seeking a full-time role, but still wants meaningful contribution and income
  • Is comfortable with commission-based compensation tied to results
  • Values autonomy, trust, and impact over hierarchy or pace

What You’ll Gain

  • Flexible, senior-level engagement without full-time pressure
  • Real ownership and influence over strategy and outcomes
  • Financial upside aligned with impact
  • The opportunity to contribute experience toward work that matters, alongside peers who value purpose and legacy

Expected time commitment

  • ~ 10 hours per week
  • Growth pathway: Clear transition into a paid leadership role as fundraising stabilizes
