
Fund Development Specialist
Regular Exempt Position (Up to 35 Hours)

The Opportunity
We are seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Fund Development Specialist to lead and grow our fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy, including major gifts, planned giving, signature events, and capital campaigns as required.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to advance fundraising initiatives that sustain and expand the organization’s impact. You will also provide supervision and guidance to the Donor Relations & Support Services Administrator while serving as a passionate ambassador for the organization in the community.

Located in the South Okanagan, SOWINS is a non-profit society providing safe refuge and community-based resources for women and children. SOWINS operates a transitional and second-stage housing facilities, including counselling and outreach services. Executive Level Accountabilities
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive fund development strategy to increase annual revenue
- Provide leadership in planning and implementing fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and Board of Directors
- Build, manage, and steward a portfolio of donors, including major gifts and planned giving prospects
- Strengthen relationships with donors, community partners, volunteers, and stakeholders to enhance engagement and long-term support
- Oversee the planning and execution of signature fundraising events and support third-party initiatives
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on fundraising performance, including metrics, outcomes, and financial results
- Develop and manage the fundraising budget, ensuring responsible financial stewardship
- Ensure effective donor data management, compliance with relevant regulations, and timely acknowledgement of contributions
- Collaborate on the development of fundraising communications, campaigns, and storytelling initiatives
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to the Donor Relations & Support Services Administrator
- Represent the organization publicly through presentations, donor meetings, tours, and community engagement activities
Qualifications
- Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Relations, or a related field
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in a senior fundraising role, including campaign and donor management
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing fundraising strategies and achieving revenue targets
- Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, donor stewardship, and planned giving
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Proven leadership and relationship-building abilities
- Experience working with or supporting a Board of Directors is an asset
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- CFRE designation is considered an asset
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered
