Job Purpose

The Fund Development Manager provides strategic leadership for Shine’s fundraising programs, driving sustainable revenue growth in support of the organization’s mission to empower young people in Canada living with severe physical disabilities. This role oversees multiple fundraising streams—including partnerships, events, and individual giving—while leading and supporting a high-performing fund development team.

The Fund Development Manager plays a key role in strengthening donor relationships, advancing fundraising best practices, and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and impact across the organization.

The Fund Development Manager oversees a fundraising portfolio valued at $870,000 and holds direct accountability for securing a minimum of $500,000 in revenue in the 2026 fiscal year.

Key Responsibilities

Fund Development Strategy & Leadership ($500,000 Portfolio)

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an integrated fund development strategy aligned with Shine’s strategic plan and revenue goals.
  • Provide strategic oversight of diversified fundraising streams, including Sustained Giving, Individual Gifts, and Corporate portfolios.
  • Lead and evolve Shine’s signature fundraising event, Come to Sleigh, with responsibility for partnership development and oversight of end-to-end execution, including management of a Recruitment Committee and collaboration with an external event planning company.
  • Build and advance a strong provincial and federal grants pipeline to support long-term revenue growth.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and donor engagement across all fundraising activities, focusing on high-level and new corporate partners.
  • Monitor fundraising trends and best practices to inform strategy and continuous improvement.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and support Fund Development staff.
  • In conjunction with the CEO set clear performance expectations, goals, and KPIs for team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and results-oriented team culture.
  • Support professional development and succession planning within the team.

Donor & Partner Relations

  • Manage a portfolio of key donors, partners, and prospects, as appropriate.
  • Support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors, corporate partners, and funders.
  • Represent Shine in meetings, presentations, events, and external engagements.

Planning, Budgeting & Reporting

  • Help develop and manage the Fund Development budget, forecasts, and revenue projections.
  • Track performance against targets and report regularly to senior leadership.
  • Ensure accurate data management, reporting, and compliance with fundraising policies and regulations.

Cross-Organizational Collaboration

  • Work closely with Programs, Finance, Communications, and Leadership teams to align fundraising priorities with Program needs and impact storytelling.
  • Contribute to organizational planning and decision-making as a member of the management team.
  • Support board engagement in fundraising and stewardship activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5–7+ years of progressive experience in Fund Development.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple fundraising programs and achieving revenue targets.
  • Experience leading and developing staff.
  • Strong strategic planning, budgeting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership abilities.
  • Experience in the nonprofit or charitable sector, preferably in a national organization.
  • Knowledge of Canadian fundraising regulations and best practices.
  • Experience working with boards and senior volunteers.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and fundraising analytics.

Working Conditions & Travel
