MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLOR – YOUTH AND ADULTS

Position Type: Full time (35 hours per week)

Salary Range: $64,000 - $68,000 per annum

Job Area: Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode

SCOPE OF POSITION:

As a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, the successful candidate will provide short-term counselling, crisis intervention, group work and outreach to youth, adults, and families residing in Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of community mental health approaches and recognize the interplay between personal circumstances and social determinants of health.

The successful applicant must be committed to working within the Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode Community Resource Centre’s model of Community Development.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responds to the mental health needs of youth, adults, and their families
  • Provides assessment, crisis intervention, short-term counselling, and referral services to NROCRC’s clients and service providers
  • Supports individuals and groups from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Provides Intake support as required
  • Collaborates and consults with community partners and stakeholders
  • Advocates on behalf of clients
  • Designs and delivers community workshops, seminars, and information sessions
  • Conducts outreach to the NROCRC’s catchment areas
  • Acts as a clinical resource for NROCRC staff
  • Maintains accurate clinical documentation and statistics in an electronic case management system
  • May provide supervision for Counselling Interns during field placements
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

COMMON RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Social Work or Master’s degree in Counselling
  • Registered and in good standing with a professional association (e.g., Registered Social Worker, Registered Psychotherapist)
  • Minimum three (3) years counselling experience in a social service setting, including direct front-line experience in assessment, crisis intervention, and short-term counselling with both youth and adults
  • Experience using a variety of counselling modalities, including therapeutic, health promotion, and psycho-educational group approaches
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices
  • Familiarity with city-wide community resources
  • Demonstrated ability to practice from a strengths-based perspective
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other agencies and engage in community outreach
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and electronic case management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Fluency in English & French is required; proficiency in other languages (e.g., Arabic) is an asset
  • Current Emergency First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check is a condition of employment
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends as required
