Position Overview:

Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre (CONC) is a multi-service community agency committed to supporting individuals facing homelessness, poverty, and systemic barriers. We are currently seeking a Full-Time Kitchen Supervisor to support our Rexdale and Bloor Shelters (3 days at Rexdale and 2 days at Bloor). This role is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, including the preparation and delivery of meals while maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and nutrition.

The Kitchen Supervisor will coordinate and support a diverse kitchen team, manage daily workflows, maintain inventory, and contribute to menu planning and development. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to providing consistent, nutritious meals for shelter residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead kitchen operations, ensuring meals are prepared on time and meet quality standards.
  • Schedule and supervise kitchen staff; manage staffing needs in collaboration with the Manager of Food Services.
  • Participate in hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and food service space, in compliance with public health requirements.
  • Contribute to menu planning, food ordering, inventory management, and accurate labelling of food and dietary restrictions.
  • Report equipment or facility issues and assist in timely resolution.
  • Ensure appropriate portion sizes, food presentation, and dietary accommodations.
  • Complete documentation including timesheets, delivery receipts, and meal tracking reports.
  • Provide supervision and coaching to staff and trainees to support skill development.
  • Assist with collecting resident feedback and improving food services accordingly.
  • Support cross-site collaboration and contribute to agency-wide initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of supervisory experience in a kitchen or food service setting; unionized environment experience is an asset.
  • 3–5 years of professional cooking and baking experience, including high-volume food preparation.
  • Culinary education and/or Red Seal Certification is an asset.
  • Strong planning, time management, and team leadership skills.
  • Experience with menu planning, food safety, and training staff or volunteers.
  • Commitment to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness through high-quality food provision.
  • Preferred : Valid G Driver’s License; willingness to use personal vehicle for food delivery if needed (mileage reimbursed).
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication and organizational documentation.
