Friends of Kensington Market Board Members Wanted!

Friends of Kensington Market is a small but passionate group who loves Kensington Market and works to preserve its unique character and place in the fabric of Toronto.

We amplify the voices of Kensington – We work to increase awareness and coordinate community action on issues affecting Kensington Market, ensuring that the market’s needs are represented at every level.

We close Kensington’s service gaps - We organize, build bridges, and fill gaps between Kensington’s community organizations to ensure that the market’s social safety net serves the community and our most vulnerable neighbours.

We are Kensington’s immune system – Whenever the market is threatened – by gentrification, corporate greed, or bad public policy – Friends of Kensington Market is there to stand up for Kensington and its residents.

For all applicants, membership requires:

• Availability of at least 4.5 hours per month: 90 minutes for the monthly board meeting + at least 3 additional hours outside of board meetings.
• Residency in, proximity to, or affinity for Kensington Market and the community that surrounds it.
• We're looking for board members with knowledge of any of the following: Community organizing, Urban planning and development, Non-profit governance and operations, Housing justice and tenant rights, Communications, media, and/or public relations, Legal expertise (especially municipal or provincial law), Fundraising and grant writing, lLongstanding experience living or working in Kensington Market or adjacent neighbourhoods
