Position: Foodbank & Warehouse Assistant
Reports to: Food Bank Program and Warehouse Coordinator
Summary
This position will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Food Bank Program Coordinator in the warehouse and when the food bank is open to clients. This position will require the individual to work closely with AFP volunteers and help with managing the sorting of the donations. This person will be required to drive the agency van; therefore, a valid drivers license and a clean driving record is required.
This position is physical; it will require the individual to be on their feet for long stretches of time and be able to comfortably lift 40 lbs.
Training for responsibilities will be provided and is mandatory.
Core Responsibilities
Food Bank:
- Stock shelves before the opening of the food bank and throughout the time the food bank is open
- Be able to accompany clients around the food bank to choose their food
Warehouse:
- Learn where products are in the warehouse to restock shelves in the food bank
- Ensure that the warehouse is clean, safe and in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Dispose of garbage and cardboard at the end of each day
- Dispose of expired food and check recall warnings to ensure food safety
- Understand and follow Public Health requirements when handling and storing all donation and food purchases
- Place newly sorted crates in the correct location in the warehouse.
- Weigh donations as they come into the building and record the weight
- Be able to comfortably lift 40lbs/ 18kg
In the Community:
- Drive the agency van to local grocery stores, or locations of food drives to pick up community donations
- Attend community events on behalf of the AFP
Volunteers and Sorting Donations:
- Supervise volunteers working at the sorting table and be able to give instructions how to properly sort donations
- Keep the sorting table organized and the space around free of clutter and hazards
- Ensure that volunteers have all the equipment needed to sort
Other:
- Answer the phone
- Participate in regular team meetings
- Other duties as assigned be the Program and Warehouse Coordinator

- Strong and friendly customer service skills when interacting with: clients, donors and volunteers
- Be able to work cooperatively in a small team environment
- Creative problem solving
- Considered an asset to have experience working with non-profit organizations • Asset: Food Handling Certificate
Hours and Compensation
22-25 hrs per week.
The candidate must be able to work during the food bank hours they are not negotiable:
Tuesday
8am- 3pm
Thursday
12pm-8pm
Friday
10am-2pm
Saturday
8am-1:00pm
Salary & Benefits
- $21.00 per hour
- 12month renewable contract
- 3 weeks of paid vacation
- one week of paid sick days

Benefits will be introduced after the probationary time period is over.
Probationary Period
There is a probationary period of 9 weeks to determine whether the candidate is a good fit for the Aurora Food Pantry and themselves.
