
Food Services and Weekend Supervisor
We require a Food Services and Weekend Supervisor to provide onsite supervision and support to Food Services and Shelter Support/Relief Staff, communicate with the Shelter Manager and Program Staff to ensure effective coordination between weekdays and weekends, and oversee various initiatives related to the day-to-day operations of the Centre.
To monitor shelter operations partially during weekdays and wholly during the weekend as well as scheduling, assigning tasks and workload, and providing support, training, and leadership.
Reporting to: Shelter Manager (for shelter support) and Executive Director (for Food Services)
Job Type: Full-time, 37.5 hours.
Work Schedule: Saturdays to Wednesdays from 11am to 7pm
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory responsibilities
- Provide onsite supervision and support to 5 full-time Food Services and Shelter Support staff, part-time relief staff, and Overnight staff.
- Ensure supervised staff are trained and prepared in dealing with incidents and emergencies.
- Update schedules and assign work to all Food Services and Shelter Support Staff, ensure that everyone knows when to work and to provide any coverage.
- Find coverage for staff that will be absent from work with Relief Staff or using a 3rd party staffing agency.
- Ensure that CRWC policies, procedures and protocols are being adhered to.
- Recruit and train new Relief Staff in shift responsibilities and the policies and procedures of CRWC.
Food Services responsibilities
- Prepare the menu for the week and weekend.
- Ensure that supplies are sufficient for all menus including food and snacks.
- Follow up with Child and Family Worker regarding special dietary requirements and to ensure these are met.
- Take stock and ascertain what to order from suppliers.
- Posting report for Finance, forward all the receipts same day.
- Receive and verify the condition of food supplies and donations.
- Implement FIFO for all receivables.
- Conduct inventory of plates and cutlery.
- Ensure CRWC is in compliance with all food regulations under Toronto Shelter Standards and Toronto Public Health.
Client and Operations responsibilities
- Report to the Shelter Manager and Shelter Program Staff regarding any client-related matters requiring case management services and/or follow-up.
- Work in collaboration with the Shelter Manager, Shelter Program Staff and Food Services staff on initiatives that support the operations of the Centre.
- Respond to inquiries and requests of shelter residents by providing information, services, and support if suitable, or by directing the resident to speak with appropriate staff if the request cannot be accommodated during the weekend shift.
- Provide pertinent communication to Christie Refugee Welcome Centre staff through the organization’s Communication Logbook.
- Assist Food Services and Shelter Support/Relief Staff with kitchen, custodial and client service responsibilities (which may include covering weekend shifts in exceptional circumstances).
Other responsibilities.
- Conduct admissions of new residents who arrive at the Centre outside normal business hours and can be accommodated with emergency shelter as per CRWC’s Intake Policy and Admission Policy.
- Complete planned and/or unplanned discharges for residents who move-out as per Christie Refugee Welcome Centre’s Discharge Policy.
- Assist families and individuals who arrive at the Centre with appropriate information on how to request emergency shelter and provide referrals to Central Intake and other organizations that can provide further assistance with securing emergency shelter.
- Take notes and report any ongoing trends, issues or concerns related to the Centre as observed during the weekend and outside normal business hours.
- Document all admissions, discharges and/or incident reports involving residents on SMIS.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A two-year diploma in social services or a degree in social sciences/social work, or relevant frontline experience within the settlement sector.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Experience working in a kitchen and in an emergency shelter and/or social service environment.
- Experience working in a cross-cultural environment within an anti-oppression framework.
- Ability to manage conflict situations with skill and diplomacy.
