
Food Bank Volunteer
About the Organization:
The Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples (CSSP) is a non-profit, multi-service organization that has been serving the Spanish-speaking and Latinx/Hispanic community in the Greater Toronto Area for nearly 50+ years. As a cornerstone of support for generations of Spanish-speaking individuals, CSSP provides an extensive range of services, including pro-bono legal aid, settlement support, and integrated services for seniors and women experiencing or at risk of gender-based violence (VAW). Our outreach extends to critical areas such as sexual health education, harm reduction initiatives, food bank support, and referrals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with unloading boxes from delivery truck pallets and transporting them to the program room using carts
- Unpack and sort food items
- Check items for freshness and suitability for distribution
- Read labels to confirm best-before and expiry dates
- Label food items appropriately for distribution
- Help with participant check-in and check-out
- Provide support during the shopping process
- Work under the direction of the Program and People Support Coordinator
Qualifications:
- Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds, including members of the York Centre community
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs safely
- Fluency in Spanish is NOT a requirement
Volunteer Hours:
- Every other Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM*
- Every other Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM*
