Job Title: Financial Administrator

Independent Contractor Position 20 hours per month (flexible), $40 per hour

Reports to: Treasurer and/or Board of Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada

Location: Remote, requiring reliable, secure and strong internet service at the applicant’s location. Laptop will be provided.

Duration: 12 month contract with strong possibility for renewal each year. 3 month probationary period applies.

Position Overview

The Financial Administrator plays a vital role in supporting the overall financial health of Storytellers of Canada – Conteurs du Canada (SC-CC), a non-profit national Arts Service Organization devoted to connecting people, reflecting culture, and inspiring learning and creativity through the art of storytelling.

The successful candidate will assist the board to manage the annual budget ($150k) and to allocate financial resources effectively.

Experience Required

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures
  • Impeccable reputation for honesty, accuracy, transparency and integrity
  • Knowledge of Canada’s Arts and Culture, Charitable sector including CADAC, Government of Canada (Charities, HST Rebates) and various municipal and provincial funders
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of bookkeeping and preparation of financial reports and budgets
  • Ability to work with annual auditors to ensure a transparent and efficient process
  • Strong administrative, organization and time management skills
  • Proven ability to self-direct and independently manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Confident decision making skills
  • Perceptive and concise verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Proficiency in oral and written English required
  • Proficiency in oral and/or written French is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quickbooks, Excel, Google Sheets, Paypal , Zoom

Monthly responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping, account reconciliations and preparation of financial reports
  • Issue charitable receipts
  • Manage cash flow and bank account balances to maximize interest income
  • Monitor credit card transactions
  • Issue payments by e-transfer or cheque
  • Process membership fees and liaise with members who are in arrears
  • Track prepaid expenses, deferred revenues, accounts payable and receivable

Annual /As needed:

  • Prepare and monitor the operating budget, financial processes, and the annual flow of financial related events
  • Preparation of cash flow and analytical reports as needed
  • Assist board with annual operating grant budgets, reports, applications
  • Assist conference committee with preparation and monitoring of budget, payment to vendors and artists, receiving conference fees from delegates.
  • Provide program coordinators with financial information, assist with their budgets and grant reports
  • Organize and prepare documentation and reports for annual audit
  • Make financial-related recommendations to Board to maximize SC-CC resources
  • Complete government reports as needed including CADAC, HST rebates, T3010, and various grant reports
