Position Title: Finance Strategist/Grant & Planning Lead
Location: Mississauga, ON (Onsite/Hybrid)
Reports To: Head of Finance and Admin and Management
Position Type: Volunteer/Internship Position (Part-Time)

The Finance Strategist / Grant & Planning Lead plays a critical role in strengthening the organization’s financial sustainability and long-term growth. This position focuses on grant research, funding strategy, financial planning, and program budgeting, helping ensure that initiatives are well-funded and aligned with the organization’s mission.

Working closely with leadership, this role supports the development of strategic plans, identifies funding opportunities, and helps build a strong financial foundation for current and future programs.

Role Purpose

We are looking for a strategic and research-driven individual to support financial planning, grant research, and growth initiatives. This role is ideal for someone interested in nonprofit funding, budgeting, and long-term impact. This role bridges financial strategy and program planning, ensuring that:

  • Programs are financially viable and sustainable
  • Funding opportunities are actively identified and pursued
  • Financial insights inform strategic decisions

Core Responsibilities

Grant Research & Funding Strategy

  • Research and identify relevant grants, funding streams, and sponsorship opportunities
  • Assist in developing grant proposals, budgets, and supporting documents
  • Track grant deadlines, requirements, and submissions
  • Support reporting requirements for funded programs

Financial Planning & Budgeting

  • Assist in developing program and organizational budgets
  • Support financial forecasting and resource planning
  • Monitor funding allocation across programs
  • Provide insights to support cost-effective planning and decision-making

Strategic Planning

  • Contribute to short-term and long-term organizational planning
  • Align funding strategies with program goals and community needs
  • Assist in developing growth and expansion plans
  • Support the evaluation of program financial sustainability

Data, Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain organized grant and financial records
  • Track funding sources, expenditures, and reporting timelines
  • Support the preparation of reports for leadership and stakeholders
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in financial and grant documentation

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with leadership, program coordinators, and admin team
  • Support cross-functional planning between finance and operations
  • Assist in building partnerships with funders and community stakeholders

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Interest in nonprofit finance, grants, or strategic planning
  • Experience or coursework in business, finance, public administration, or a related field (asset)
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, documents, and reporting tools
  • Strong written communication skills (especially for grant writing support)
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently
