Annual Salary Range: $63,000 - $73,000

  • Permanent Full-time Opportunity with Extended Health Benefits and eligible to participate in the BC Municipal Pension Plan.

Purpose

The Finance Officer performs backup day-to-day accounting and financial activities of the Foundation to assist with process improvements within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Coordinate bi-weekly disbursement cheque runs.
  • Complete monthly donation reconciliation and weekly donation bank transactions.
  • Support biweekly disbursement cheque runs and liaise with PHSA Accounts Payable.
  • Monitor weekly corporate credit card balances, assist with credit limit adjustments and manage card issuance.
  • Provide backup support for quarterly PST and GST filings.
  • Respond to queries, fund balances and commitments outstanding to fund signatories and Foundation staff.
  • Assist with financial reporting for Foundation raffles in compliance with Gaming Policy & Enforcement Branch regulations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly financial reporting package and fund balance updates.
  • Support the development of audit working papers related to cash, grants and other financial areas.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of full cycle bookkeeping experience, with a registered charity or non-profit organization considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA Designation or working towards designation.
  • Understanding of fund accounting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in the non-profit sector considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and/or Raiser’s Edge is an asset.
  • Prior experience in grant management is an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work independently or collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
