Role Overview
We are seeking a Finance Manager / Finance & Compliance Advisor to support Samawada’s financial operations, compliance, and reporting. This role is essential to ensuring responsible stewardship of donor funds, CRA compliance, and strong financial controls across all projects and partner implementations.
The role works closely with leadership, the Board, and external partners to ensure transparent, auditable, and sustainable financial management.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day financial operations and reporting
Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements for registered charities
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Review and monitor project budgets and partner expenditures
Ensure proper financial controls, approvals, and segregation of duties
Support preparation for CRA audits or financial reviews
Review financial agreements with partners, vendors, and consultants
Ensure accurate bookkeeping and reconciliation (e.g., QuickBooks or similar systems)
Prepare financial reports for leadership, donors, and the Board
Support financial transparency and donor accountability initiatives
Assist in developing and maintaining financial policies and procedures
Monitor financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies
What We Are Looking For
Background in finance, accounting, or financial management
Experience with non-profit or charitable financial operations
Strong understanding of CRA compliance and reporting requirements
Experience preparing budgets, financial reports, and audits
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
Interest in humanitarian or social impact work
Experience with international or cross-border financial operations is an asset but not required.
Nice to Have
CPA, accounting designation, or advanced finance training
Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
Familiarity with donor-restricted funds and grant reporting
Experience supporting Boards or finance committees
Knowledge of financial controls for international partnerships
