Finance Manager
About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and financially responsible Finance Manager to oversee the financial affairs of our social enterprise ministries and of our office. This is an important role that will help ensure our registered charity remains financially healthy, transparent, accountable, and compliant with applicable requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director, Board Treasurer, staff, and external accounting professionals as needed. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys working in a nonprofit organization and is comfortable taking ownership of financial processes while also providing clear, practical financial information to leadership.
This role is offered on a volunteer basis, to work up to 20 hours per week at our Table Soup Kitchen Foundation office in Huntsville, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight
- Oversee the organization’s day-to-day financial activities and financial controls.
- Monitor cash flow, income and expenses, related to social enterprises in collaboration with organizational leadership and accountant.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
- Review and approve expense sheet financial transactions in accordance with organizational policies.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls and procedures are in place.
- Implement revenue-increasing initiatives.
Budgeting & Planning
- Assist in preparing and monitoring the annual operating budget in collaboration with the ED and Board Treasurer.
- Track actual results against the approved budget and identify significant variances primarily in social enterprises.
- Provide financial forecasts and recommendations to support sound decision-making.
- Assist with financial planning for programs and ministries, projects, grants, and special initiatives.
Reporting
- Prepare regular financial reports for the Executive Director.
- Present financial information in a clear and understandable manner.
- Provide reports on revenues, expenses, cash flow, and budget performance using Clover POS.
Compliance & Year-End
- Assist with year-end financial processes, audits, reviews, and preparation of required filings.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and financial records.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide analysis of donor records and make recommendations based on analysis.
- Provide leadership to PT administrative staff and volunteers regarding financial records.
- Handle bank deposits and help maintain appropriate internal controls.
- Monitor grant and restricted-fund expenditures where applicable.
- Assist with financial policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial efficiency and sustainability.
- Provide financial recommendations to organizational leadership.
Qualifications:
- Experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, financial management, or a related field.
- Experience working with budgets, financial statements, and financial reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to individuals who may not have a financial background.
- Strong integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
- Proficiency with accounting software, QuickBooks, Zeffy, Clover and Google Sheets.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Nonprofit experience is an asset, as is experience with charitable organizations, grants, restricted funds, or board-level financial reporting.
