Position Summary

The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing the financial operations of both the church and its affiliated childcare center. This role ensures accurate accounting, timely payroll, regulatory compliance, and proactive financial planning to support the mission and long-term health of the ministries. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, trustworthy, and comfortable working in a faith-based, community-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Accounting

• Maintain accurate and timely financial records for the church and childcare center.
• Oversee and execute accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, and monthly reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership, committees, and auditors.
• Manage restricted and investment funds according to donor intent and accounting standards.
• Coordinate the annual budgeting process in collaboration with ministry leaders.

2. Payroll Administration

• Process biweekly or monthly payroll for all church and childcare center employees.
• Manage payroll taxes, benefits, and deductions in compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
• Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality of personnel and compensation data.
• Coordinate with outside payroll vendors or software platforms as needed.

3. Financial Forecasting & Planning

• Prepare financial forecasts, cash-flow projections, and analysis to inform strategic decisions.
• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities affecting financial stability for both ministries.
• Advise senior leadership on long-range financial planning, capital needs, and resource allocation.

4. Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, nonprofit regulations, and childcare licensing requirements that pertain to finance.
• Prepare materials for audits or financial reviews and coordinate with external auditors.
• Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and promote transparency.

5. Contribution & Donation Management

• Oversee recording and processing of offerings, designated gifts and donations of securities.
• Produce regular donor statements and assist with annual giving statements.
• Support stewardship and generosity initiatives with accurate financial reporting.

6. Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with the incumbent, managing director, wardens, finance committee, childcare director, and ministry leaders.
• Present clear and understandable financial reports to leadership and committees.
• Support ministry leaders with budget tracking and responsible spending.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in nonprofit or small business accounting.
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ACS Realm, Shelby, etc.).
• Strong understanding of payroll systems and regulations.
• High integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Preferred

• Experience with church or faith-based organization financial management programs, such as Power Church.
• Familiarity with childcare center financial requirements (e.g., licensing, subsidies, reporting).
• CPA or equivalent credential (optional but a plus).
