Finance Director

Location: Halifax Regional Municipality, NS (Hybrid flexibility)

The Role: The Finance Director is the strategic architect of AHANS’s financial stewardship and the primary guardian of its fiscal integrity. We aim to set a national benchmark in our stewardship of funding and reporting. Beyond traditional finance, this role serves as the internal accountability resource for the organization’s operational plan, ensuring that strategy implementation and outcomes are closely aligned with our mission and long-term objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • National Stewardship & Funding Administration: Lead the overarching administration and reporting of federal, provincial, and municipal funding. Design and model the standards that ensure AHANS maintains a high level of accountability and openness in all public reporting.
  • Strategic Alignment & Accountability: Serve as the primary internal resource for the accountability of the organizational operational plan. Monitor the implementation of strategy and ensure that operational outcomes are measured, reported, and financially sustainable.
  • Capital Strategy Support: Review and support the development team’s work on capital stacks for new builds. Ensure all development financing and acquisitions are in strict alignment with AHANS’s long-term forecasting and strategic objectives.
  • Organizational Risk Leadership: Serve as the central registrar of all risk within the organization. You will be responsible for identifying, tracking, and developing proactive mitigation strategies for financial, operational, and institutional risks.
  • Executive Governance: Translate complex financial and project data into clear, high-level intelligence for the Board of Directors and Senior Management Team, modeling a culture of open and accountable reporting.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation is required.
  • 5+ years of progressive financial leadership. We value the ability to master the navigable complexities of a project-based non-profit environment and provide steady, strategic guidance.
  • Proven experience in designing rigorous internal controls and managing multi-layered funding accountability.
