
Finance & Compliance Officer
Reports To: Executive Director
Salary Range: $68,000 plus benefits
Role Type: Permanent, Full-Time (4 day work week)
Location: Mixed remote & in office/ Victoria BC only

We are seeking a talented, detail-oriented individual to play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of our party. This position oversees the entire financial lifecycle of the party. You will be responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and serve as the Party’s “Financial Agent” legally responsible for Elections BC compliance with the leadership support of the Executive Director and elected Chair and Treasurer.
As the Finance & Compliance Officer with the BC Green Party, you’ll work on:
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable (donations processing), and payroll for party staff and contractors.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Statement of Assets and Liabilities, Statement of Income and Expenses).
- Budgeting: Work with the Party Leader and Director to build and track the annual operating budget and the Election Period budget (in election years), ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.
- Monitor budget performance and present financial updates to party leadership.
- Banking: Reconcile all accounts monthly.
- Other annual filings to CRA
2. Regulatory Compliance & HR Administration
- Contributions: Verify contributor eligibility and enforce the annual individual giving limit. Identify and return prohibited funds in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Tax Receipts: Issue official political tax receipts for monetary donations only, per provincial regulations.
- Ad Compliance: Ensure all advertising includes mandatory authorization statements and maintain the party’s digital transparency registry.
- Elections BC Filings: Lead the preparation of all statutory reports (Annual, Monthly, and Election Financing Reports).
- Audit Management: Act as the lead contact for the external auditor to ensure a "clean" (unqualified) audit opinion.
- Human Resources administration: ensuring compliant management of payroll, deductions, benefits, annual T4s etc.
3. Riding Association & Campaign Support
- Oversight & support: With support of the ED and working with the field team, creates or maintains templates & guides, and provides support with regards to the financial activities of riding associations and local election campaigns
What you will bring to the team:
Core Requirements
- A minimum of three years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial management
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (or similar software considered)
- Strong proficiency with Excel
- Either a Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or a related field OR equivalent demonstrated experience in a similar role for at least three years
- Proven experience in budget development and financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal relations and financial reporting.
- High Integrity: Uncompromising commitment to transparency and accuracy.
- Alignment with the party's values and goals
Bonus Qualifications
- SQL language programming preferred
- Strong understanding of the BC Society Act and/or Elections BC campaign finance laws, regulations, and compliance requirements
- Expertise in the Election Act (BC) and Elections BC’s Electronic Filing System (EFS).
- CPA Designation (or equivalent senior experience in non-profit/political accounting).
- Familiarity with fundraising software and donor management systems.
- Understanding of the political landscape in British Columbia
