
Finance Committee Member
Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI) is seeking committed volunteers to join our Finance Committee, which supports strong financial governance and advises the Board of Directors on the stewardship of MHI’s resources.
The committee plays a key role in ensuring accountability, safeguarding assets, and strengthening MHI’s financial systems as we work to provide safe, affordable housing in Ottawa.
About the Role
Finance Committee members role include;
· Oversight of MHI’s financial management
· Review monthly and annual financial statements
· Support budgeting processes, assess financial controls, and help ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
· Participate in annual audit activities, collaborate with auditors and staff, and monitor the implementation of audit recommendations.
Who We’re Looking For
· We welcome volunteers with experience or interest in non-profit or charitable finance, Rent Geared to Income or Affordable Housing Program, budgeting, financial reporting, or board governance.
· A CPA designation is an asset but not required.
· MHI Tenants with a finance background or those currently studying finance or accounting are strongly encouraged to apply.
· Willingness to work respectfully and collaboratively with people from diverse faith, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
Time Commitment
The committee meets once a month for 2 hours, with an additional 2–4 hours of document review between meetings, and occasional extra support as needed.
