Location: Whilst the SOS Children’s Villages Canada office is located in Ottawa, Ontario, we are looking for suitable candidates across Canada.
Reporting to: Finance & Audit committee chair
Position Type: voluntary; 3-4 virtual committee meetings per year
Language: English essential, French highly desirable

Founded in 1969, SOS Children’s Villages Canada is a member of the SOS Children’s Villages International federation.
SOS Children’s Villages is dedicated to protecting children and advancing their rights in over 130 countries and territories worldwide. We believe that children deserve more than just survival. They have a right to grow up in a safe and caring family environment, giving them the best chance of a secure future. Using a holistic approach, we work to empower vulnerable children, families, and communities to ensure children’s rights are met. Through programs focused on child protection, education, health, nutrition, economic empowerment and humanitarian responses, SOS Children’s Villages serves over 1 million people annually.
SOS Children’s Villages Canada is governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors with a variety of professional expertise. Directors are currently based in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal and Windhoek/Namibia. The role of the Board is focused on fiduciary safeguarding and sustainable strategic development of the organization in a transparent, ethical, and legal manner.
There are 4 active board committees operating: Finance & AuditCommittee, HR Committee, Governance Committee, and Program Committee.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking passionate and skilled Finance & Audit Committee Members to join a dedicated team of professionals, contributing financial expertise to provide oversight, guide strategic planning and ensure transparency, sustainability, and meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate financial reporting, annual budgets, and funding proposals to support informed decision-making
- Provide insight on financial risk, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency
- Recommend best practices to strengthen fiscal governance and long-term sustainability
- Collaborate with a diverse, mission-driven team of professionals
Ideal Candidate:
- A finance professional or an experienced volunteer with a background in accounting, financial management and/or non-profit finance
- Committed to ethical stewardship, comfortable collaborating remotely, and able to dedicate up to a maximum of 10 hours per calendar year for financial reviews and committee meetings
