Contract - Part Time

The National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB®) is the organization responsible for establishing and maintaining a national standard of competence for dentists in Canada. Its mission is to serve the Canadian public, Dental Regulatory Authorities, and dental education institutions by ensuring a valid and reliable evaluation of competence for dentists in Canada.

The NDEB is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as a Member of the Finance and Audit Committee. The Committee is responsible for the review of:

  • Annual financial statements and ongoing financial performance
  • Accounting policies and procedures
  • Annual budgets including recommendation for Board approval
  • Results of the annual audit and performance of the external auditors

The Committee will approve the terms of engagement for the external auditors and meet annually with the auditors as necessary. It will also undertake other activities as delegated by the Board.

Skills and Experience

Candidates will have a Chartered Professional Accountant designation and experience with not-for-profit Boards as a Board member or Finance and Audit Committee member. The individual will have executive level experience in the area of financial reporting and audit. The individual must also be independent from the NDEB and its external auditor, Welch LLP.

Ideal candidates will have a high level of integrity and ethical standards, excellent decision-making skills, strong understanding of business issues and financial matters, sound judgement, well developed communication skills, and the ability to challenge and probe in a professional manner.

Remuneration and Time Commitment

The successful candidate will receive an annual retainer fee ($3,000) plus fees ($800/Day) for each Finance and Audit Committee meeting attended. The NDEB typically holds four meetings a year in Ottawa.Preference will be given to candidates residing in the Ottawa area.

The initial engagement will be three years with the possibility of renewal for one more term.
