Position Overview

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of families? As a Family Preservation Worker, you’ll provide hands-on, culturally responsive support that empowers families to build stability, strengthen relationships, and thrive together. Join a team dedicated to keeping families connected, helping them grow stronger, and creating lasting change.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Family Preservation Worker supports families through intake, case management, and goal setting while maintaining an active caseload. The role focuses on building positive relationships with parents, providing crisis intervention, and applying evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive approaches to enhance family stability, problem-solving, and parenting skills. Key responsibilities include facilitating supportive visitation, delivering life skills training and psychoeducation, coordinating with MCFD social workers and community partners, and participating in integrated case management meetings. The position also requires maintaining accurate documentation, preparing timely progress reports, and representing the organization with professionalism in the community.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Psychology, Child & Youth Care, or Sociology) or equivalent education and at least two years of recent experience working with vulnerable populations. A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License, an insured vehicle, and First Aid certification are required. Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, or Punjabi is also essential to effectively serve families in the Family Enhancement Program.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Service Act, risk assessment practices, and family support principles. They will demonstrate excellent case management, organizational, and time management skills, along with well-developed interpersonal, counselling, and communication abilities. Outreach and home visiting experience is an asset. Key strengths include quickly building rapport with clients, providing psychoeducation on parenting, trauma, and family functioning, and applying knowledge of child development, life skills, and healthy relationships. The candidate will also show cultural sensitivity, maintain confidentiality, collaborate effectively with colleagues and community partners, and remain committed to ongoing professional development.

This position is open to all applicants and requires union membership.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
