
Face Off Against Hunger Volunteer Lead
Food Banks Mississauga is seeking volunteers to sit on its inaugural Face Off Against Hunger event committee. This committee serves to support Food Banks Mississauga staff in a signature community event which will raise funds to support neighbours facing food insecurity in Mississauga. As Volunteer Lead you will assist the Volunteer Programs Specialist to coordinate event volunteers.
Duration: September 2026 - June 2027
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per month
Location: Virtual, with one in-person meeting monthly on the third Wednesday of every month; attendance on event day (May 1, 2027)
Support: Face Off Against Hunger Committee Chair; Volunteer Programs Specialist
Training: Ongoing training on Food Banks Mississauga policies, mission, vision, values, roles and responsibilities, and key deliverables
Responsibilities:
- Work with Volunteer Programs Specialist to coordinate volunteers on event day
- Create volunteer orientation and recognition strategies
- Manage volunteer communications
- Assist in filling in last minute vacancies
- Develop post-event survey and collect volunteer feedback
- Co-design volunteer recruitment plan and timeline
- Train volunteers on roles and responsibilities
Qualifications:
- 19+ with a mature and positive attitude
- 1-2 years experience working directly with volunteers in a leadership role; previous volunteer experience preferred
- Ability to be active and stand for an extended period of time (8+ hours) on event day
- Lifting capabilities (35+ lbs)
- Strong written and spoken English skills; other languages are a plus
- Professional email and phone etiquette
- Access to a personal computer and cell phone required
- Respect diverse perspectives
- Capability to build and maintain positive working relationships
