Who we are: Unity Housing is an affordable housing provider, and registered charity, located in the City of Ottawa who proudly serves 126 housing units with the goal of supporting and advancing the well-being of the individuals and families in our communities.

Mission Statement: Offering safe, affordable rental accommodation to individuals and families in a multi-cultural setting.

Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Interim Executive Director for a 2-month leave coverage, which may be extended. The interim ED will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Corporation, ensuring excellence across tenant relations, financial planning, human resources, reporting, and property maintenance. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations while fostering strong relationships with government partners, funders, and key stakeholders.

The Interim Executive Director is responsible for:

Managing the corporation

  • Direct and oversee Board-approved policies
  • Provide leadership to organization personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication
  • Ensure that the Corporation is compliant with applicable laws, regulations and contractual obligation, and submits all information, reports and records required to appropriate authorities
  • Manage and review contracts with subcontractors, partners and other third parties
  • Oversee relationship with tenants and efforts to build community within the Corporation
  • Ensure that the Corporation’s buildings remain in a good state of repair and that maintenance is carried out as required and within budgetary allocations
  • Oversee planning and application development for new properties and major capital projects

Administration

  • Has overall responsibility to manage the human resources of the organization in accordance with the Corporation’s personnel policies and procedures
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for staff (if applicable during term of contract)
  • Ensure compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations and guidelines pertinent to the organization’s role as an employer

Financial

  • Ensure that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved and the control of operating expenses within budget
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting
  • Reports to the Board on potential risks to the organization and strategies to mitigate those risks

Liaise with board, regulatory authorities and partners

  • Supporting operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, and interfacing between Board and staff.
  • Though no Board meetings are currently scheduled during the contract term, should that change role will involve preparing management reports for the Board, attending Board meetings,

Qualifications

  • Relevant education and/or significant employment experience in the non-profit housing sector
  • Experience in preparing and managing budgets, preferably in the non-profit housing context
  • Solid financial management skills
  • Experience in managing and leading employees
  • Experience in property management
  • Knowledge of legislative and funding regimes relevant to the non-profit housing sector
  • Familiarity with non-profit governance
  • Commitment to affordable housing and community building
  • Comfort working in a culturally, linguistically and economically diverse environment

Salary and Benefits:

  • $65 000 to $72 000/year based on qualifications (prorated to contract term)
