About the organization

Dignity Seniors Society BC is a BC-based charity dedicated to championing the rights, wellbeing, and dignity of 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors across the province. As we enter an exciting new chapter of growth, we are searching for a founding Executive Director — a visionary leader who will shape the organization from the ground up and leave a lasting mark on how seniors are supported and celebrated in BC.

The opportunity

As our first-ever Executive Director you will be engaged as an independent contractor for an initial one-year term, responsible for your own taxes and benefits. Working closely with our Board of Directors, you will build the operational and financial foundation that will sustain this organization for years to come.

This role is ideal for a self-directed, entrepreneurial nonprofit leader who thrives in a start-up environment and is energized by the challenge of building something that truly matters.

Key priorities in year one

  • Sustainable funding: Develop and execute a fundraising and grants strategy that secures long-term, diversified funding — including financing for the ED position itself going forward.
  • Organizational infrastructure: Design and implement a fair, equitable wage structure to guide current and future staffing as the organization grows.
  • Rebranding launch: Lead the rollout of Dignity Seniors Society BC's rebranding initiative, ensuring a cohesive, compelling identity across all platforms and touchpoints.
  • Profile building: Raise the organization's visibility and credibility with government, community partners, media, and the public — positioning Dignity Seniors Society BC as a recognized voice for 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors in BC.

What you bring

  • Proven experience in non-profit leadership, executive management, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, fundraising, and building sustainable revenue streams
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices including compensation planning and wage equity
  • Experience leading or contributing to organizational rebranding or communications strategy
  • Exceptional relationship-building, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Deep commitment to seniors' rights and the values of dignity, equity, and inclusion
  • Comfort working independently as a contractor with minimal administrative support
  • Knowledge and experience of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities

Contractor terms

This is a one-year independent contractor engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for all applicable taxes and personal benefits. Compensation details will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
