Executive Director - Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic
Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic (BSCC) is a Toronto-based charitable organization that assists women from underserved communities who are experiencing violence or its aftermath and advocates for law reform and social change that benefits women and gender-diverse people. BSCC offers trauma-informed legal, counselling, and multilingual interpretation services to diverse women and gender-diverse people who have experienced violence. We cultivate their skills and resilience by fostering safety, dignity, and equality, and we amplify their voices to create individual and collective change.
BSCC’s vision is a world where diverse women and gender diverse people live free from violence and discrimination. BSCC was established in memory of Barbra Teena Schlifer, an idealistic young lawyer whose life was cut short by violence on the night of her call to the Bar of Ontario on April 11, 1980. Since its founding in 1985, the Clinic has assisted more than 150,000 women and gender-diverse survivors of violence through our direct services, advocacy efforts, legal reform, submissions, projects, and programs. In 2024-2025 alone, BSCC provided vital services to 18,867 individuals in need of its support.
