About DVANB

The Domestic Violence Association of New Brunswick (DVANB) works to eliminate intimate partner violence in New Brunswick (NB). We are a network representing 13 transition houses and second stage facilities across the province. DVANB offers a variety of member support services, including peer support, training, and advocacy. DVANB does not provide any direct frontline support services.

About the role

The Executive Director will lead the organization through its next transition; from a nonprofit start-up to an established association representing the needs of its sector. The organization has made great strides in the past few years, developing internal policies and practices that centre a values based approach to managing our team, developing strong sectoral and cross-sectoral partnerships, and recently establishing a strategic plan.

The next Executive Director for DVANB will lead the organization in implementing plans and priority activities. This includes working with a consultant in developing a service based social enterprise to diversify funding streams, leading the development of education and training programs for members and external partners, and further developing strong governance in collaboration with the board of directors.

This role is a good fit for a strategic thinker, who is flexible and adaptable to change, and excels in creating collaborative and supportive environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Revenue development with support from the Board of Directors and staff. (Includes grantwriting, social enterprise development, managing member dues, partnerships and other activities as determined with the Board).
  • Monitor and manage financial records and transactions with the support of the Finance Committee, and an external CPA, and bookkeeper.
  • Manage administrative requirements of the association including annual filings and reporting to Federal & Provincial entities, and funders.
  • Represent DVANB as a sector advocate at events and committees.
  • Develop and implement strategies to cultivate and strengthen relationships with members and relevant partners.
  • Manage and lead a small team of staff to carry-out the organization's mission and vision and improve internal capacity.
  • Communicate with the board monthly, and prepare documents for board meetings, AGM, and similar meetings relating to members and board.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ability to manage a small team through collaboration and support, including Human Resources, and managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience in financial management, organizational development, and government relations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking and media engagement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community development, and harm reduction principles.
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector in New Brunswick.
  • Experience with Board governance and multi-funder environments is an asset.

What we offer:

  • Flexible hours; expected Mon-Fri
  • Work from home; no office space, required to live in New Brunswick or be ready to relocate, occasional travel within New Brunswick or to Ottawa required
