Role Overview
CAGC is seeking an experienced, organized, and strategic Executive Director to provide operational leadership and support effective Board governance. Working closely with the President and Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures continuity of programs and services and supports the long-term sustainability of the organization.
As a small organization, this is a shared leadership role (10 hours per week), ideal for an individual with experience with a volunteer-led working board. The role focuses on high-level coordination, continuity, and governance support of a working board. The Executive Director is not expected to independently execute all operational tasks, but instead works in partnership with Board members, committee volunteers, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Board governance, strategic planning, and policy development.
- Collaborate with the Board and committees to execute member engagement and recruitment initiatives.
- Coordinate organizational planning and monitoring in alignment with Board priorities.
- Oversee core operations and contractors to ensure accountability and continuity.
- Serve as the primary point of continuity between the Board, committees, and external partners.
- Ensure compliance with documentation, records management, and operational processes.
Supporting Roles
The following responsibilities are carried out in collaboration with Board members, committee chairs, and/or contractors:
- Support committee onboarding and coordination.
- Assist with communications and member updates, in collaboration with designated volunteers.
- Support partnership, sponsorship, and grant opportunities as identified by the Board.
- Support financial oversight and reporting in collaboration with the Board and Treasurer.
Qualifications and experience
- Minimum of two years of leadership experience in a not-for-profit, association, or similar organization.
- Experience with a “working” Board of Directors and volunteer leaders in an executive or senior management capacity.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to strategic and operational planning.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-management skills.
- Experience supporting marketing, communications, and/or association management initiatives to promote services and support membership growth.
- Relevant training or professional development in areas such as governance, association management, leadership, revenue generation, communications, or equity, diversity, and inclusion is an asset.
- Financial literacy, including experience with budgets or revenue generation, is an asset.
- Experience in healthcare, professional associations, or allied health professions preferred.
- Familiarity with genetic counselling and advocacy efforts is an asset but not required.

- Personal experience as an association executive, Board member, committee chair, or similar role is an asset.
