Executive Director (Volunteer) – Women’s Environmental Sustainability Network of Ottawa (WESNO) About WESNO The Women’s Environmental Sustainability Network of Ottawa (WESNO) was created in 2020 to increase the representation and leadership of women in environmental sustainability in Ottawa to help accelerate our transition to a sustainable and net-zero carbon economy. Since its founding, WESNO has grown into a vibrant and engaged community of women professionals with:

● Nearly 200 members on our distribution list. ● Supporting 240+ women who have participated in our events ● 900+ connections across our social media platforms and newsletter.

WESNO promotes the success and leadership of women sustainability professionals through:

● Networks: Building connections across industries to share knowledge, advice, and resources.

● Information: Acting as a central hub for references, news, events, and opportunities to deepen understanding of sustainability issues.

● Support: Providing mentoring and career development opportunities for those beginning or advancing careers in environmental sustainability.

WESNO is open to all women, including cis and trans women, as well as Two-Spirit, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of professional women. Our Ottawa-centered network is located on the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. The Role WESNO is seeking a volunteer Executive Director to provide strategic leadership and guide the organization into its next stage of development. The Executive Director will oversee a team of five volunteers, ensure effective coordination of WESNO’s activities, and strengthen partnerships within Ottawa’s sustainability community. This role is best suited for a collaborative and visionary leader with a strong background in environmental sustainability and a well-established professional network in the Ottawa region. Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per week Term of Appointment: Minimum two-year commitment, with the option for renewal. Key Responsibilities

● Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for WESNO. ● Lead, mentor, and support a team of five volunteers. ● Oversee the planning and delivery of WESNO events (typically 1 in-person and/or virtual

per quarter), and initiatives ● Organize and lead monthly team meetings ● Act as a primary representative and ambassador for WESNO in the community. ● Strengthen and expand partnerships with organizations, institutions, and professionals in

Ottawa’s environmental sustainability sector. ● Support internal communications and organizational development.

Qualifications

● Established professional network within Ottawa’s environmental sustainability community.

● Demonstrated experience in leadership, team management, and/or project coordination. ● Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills. ● Ability to think strategically and guide WESNO into its next phase of growth. ● Commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, reconciliation, and sustainability.
