The Green Party of Ontario (GPO) is seeking a visionary and strategic Executive Director (ED) to lead the Party’s operations, fundraising, and growth coming out of a record-breaking election year. This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in building a political movement rooted in climate action, social justice and compassionate leadership, which aims to elect more Green MPPs.
About the Role
The Executive Director is the senior-most staff member of the Green Party of Ontario, reporting to the Provincial Executive, working closely with the Party Leader, Caucus, staff, and volunteers to:
- Drive the implementation of our strategic plan
- Grow and strengthen the party’s fundraising capacity
- Lead a high-performing and inclusive team culture
- Steward the Party’s finances with transparency and integrity
- Oversee day-to-day operations, compliance, and technology
- Foster deep engagement with our members, supporters, and the public
This is more than a management role—it’s a movement-building role.
Your Mission
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with Staff, MPPs, and the membership to develop and implement annual strategic goals, track progress, and report transparently to the Provincial Executive.
- Compassionate Leadership: Lead a passionate team of staff and volunteers through inclusive HR practices, mentorship, and strong organizational planning.
- Fundraising & Growth: Drive the Party’s donor strategy with creativity and integrity, ensuring our fundraising reflects Green values and sustains our mission.
- Operations & Compliance: Ensure smooth administration, Elections Ontario and GPO constitutional compliance and sound financial stewardship.
- Community Building: Strengthen our base of members, volunteers, and local riding associations to grow a more diverse and engaged movement.
- Communications & Mobilizing: Ensure consistent, values-aligned messaging across the Party and support mobilization for elections, events, and advocacy campaigns.
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who knows politics can be a force for good—and who believes that people power works.
You are:
- A confident leader with experience in executive management, ideally in a progressive nonprofit, political, or advocacy environment
- A compassionate manager with an adaptable, people-first approach to building teams and problem solving in high pressure situations like elections
- A fundraising strategist with a track record of growing donor support and building authentic relationships
- A systems thinker—organized, analytical, and able to juggle budgets, timelines, and competing priorities
- A movement builder who inspires collaboration across diverse communities, staff, and volunteers
- Passionate about climate action, social justice, grassroots democracy, and equity
Qualifications
- Leadership and HR experience (hiring, team-building, performance management)
- Strong financial management and budgeting skills including analysis, decision making and reporting
- Demonstrated fundraising experience and donor relations expertise
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to lead and motivate staff, volunteers, and stakeholders
- Political or campaign experience
- Experience working with multiple levels of stakeholders (boards, donors, volunteers etc) is a strong asset
- Bilingualism (especially French) is an asset
- Knowledge of Elections Ontario requirements is an asset
