Position Type: Full-time, Fixed Term Contract (20 months)

Term: 20 months parental leave coverage and up to 2 months overlap

Start Date: April 15, 2026

End Date: December 15, 2027

Salary: $85,000 – $95,000 and extended health benefits package

Job Purpose

The Executive Director at Brock House Society is tasked with leading the organization towards fulfilling its mission of offering high-quality programs, events, and activities for seniors. This role involves strategic planning, program development, staff management, and community engagement to ensure the Society's continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities

About the Role

Brock House Society (BHS) is seeking a collaborative and strategic Interim Executive Director to provide steady leadership and operational oversight during a transition period. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Interim ED will steward organizational stability, advance key priorities, and support a strong, positive culture aligned with BHS’s mission and vision.

Strategic & Board Leadership

  • Lead development and implementation of the Strategic and Operational Plans.
  • Establish annual goals, track performance metrics, and report regularly to the Board.
  • Attend Board meetings and implement Board directives in alignment with nonprofit governance best practices.

Operations & Team Leadership

  • Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff; foster transparent communication and a culture of accountability.
  • Oversee key functional areas including finance, facilities, food services, marketing, membership, programs, and volunteer services.
  • Support employee retention, succession planning, and leadership development.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

  • Ensure sound financial management in collaboration with the Finance Committee, Treasurer, Accountant, and auditor.
  • Oversee payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and adherence to applicable legislation (including BC Employment Standards and WorkSafeBC requirements).
  • Maintain up-to-date policies, procedures, and personnel records.

Community Engagement & Fund Development

  • Partner with the Board, staff, and volunteers to lead planning and organizational readiness for the 50th Anniversary celebrations, including the Winter and Summer Fairs.
  • Serve as the primary public representative and spokesperson for Brock House Society.
  • Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with community partners, donors, sponsors, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fund development plan, including grant writing and support for fundraising campaigns and special events.

Governance, Risk & Privacy

  • Support nonprofit governance best practices in collaboration with the Board.
  • Serve as Risk Management and Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of senior management/executive leadership experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Graduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and leadership skills.
  • Experience in program development, human resources, financial management, and community relations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community development principles.
  • Experience in fund development and grant writing is desirable.
  • Proven senior leadership experience in the nonprofit or community-based sector.
  • Strong financial acumen and operational management skills.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated success in team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and fund development.
  • Knowledge of BC nonprofit governance and employment legislation preferred.
