VOLUNTEER ROLE: EVENT SUPPORT – AMD/IRD COFFEE

CONNECTIONS (VICTORIA)

Location: Victoria City Hall (Antechamber) – 1 Centennial Square, Victoria, BC V8W 1P6

Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2026

AMD Event Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. PT (volunteers required from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.)

IRD Event Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. PT (volunteers required from 4:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.)

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Coffee Connections Event Support Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and organized experience for attendees. This event is designed for individuals living with eye diseases and their families, providing them with the opportunity to connect with others, share their experiences, and gain insights from field experts.

Volunteers can select from two shifts: the morning session will focus on age-related macular degeneration, while the evening session will concentrate on inherited retinal diseases. Your responsibilities will include assisting with event logistics, providing guest support, and addressing accessibility needs.

Responsibilities

  • Greet attendees and provide directions within the venue.
  • Providing a sighted guide to guests with vision loss (training will be provided).
  • Help set up and maintain the refreshment area, ensuring items are stocked and accessible.
  • Distribute event materials such as name tags, handouts, and registration lists.
  • Support seating arrangements and assist attendees in finding their designated areas.
  • Provide basic technical support if needed (e.g., helping attendees access digital materials).
  • Assist with post-event cleanup and packing materials.

Qualifications

  • Friendly and welcoming demeanor.
  • Comfortable assisting individuals with vision loss (training provided).
  • Reliable and punctual.

Time Commitment

Volunteers are expected to be available from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. – 9 p.m., including setup and takedown.
