Help Bring the Afro-Caribbean Thrive Conference 2026 to Life!
The Afro-Caribbean Thrive Coalition is seeking organized, enthusiastic, and proactive Volunteer Event Coordinators to join our Conference Leadership Team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event planning while contributing to a meaningful community initiative that celebrates leadership, entrepreneurship, career development, health, and research within Afro-Caribbean communities.
About the Role
As a Volunteer Event Coordinator, you will play a key role in planning, organizing, and coordinating activities leading up to and during the Afro-Caribbean Thrive Conference 2026. You will work closely with committee members, volunteers, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and community partners to help ensure the conference runs smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and coordinating conference activities and logistics.
- Coordinate assigned projects and ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
- Communicate with speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners as assigned.
- Attend planning meetings and provide regular updates on assigned tasks.
- Help recruit and coordinate volunteers when needed.
- Support venue preparation, event setup, registration, guest experience, and event-day operations.
- Identify challenges and work collaboratively with the team to develop solutions.
- Maintain organized records and assist with tracking project progress.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented.
- Previous event planning or volunteer experience is an asset but not required.
- Passion for community engagement and creating meaningful experiences.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 3–5 hours per week leading up to the conference.
- Attendance at virtual planning meetings.
- Availability to support conference activities and attend the event on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the University of Ottawa.
