About BISN
The Bell Island Support Network (BISN) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing social and health challenges related to addictions and recovery on Bell Island, NL. Bell Island is a rural community located about a 20-minute drive and 20-minute ferry crossing from St. John’s. It has a population of approximately 2,400 people and is home to an Opioid Management and Treatment Clinic at the local hospital.
BISN’s goals are to:
- Enhance harm reduction efforts.
- Provide peer support throughout the recovery process.
- Offer opportunities for life skills, pre-employment and employment training.
- Reduce stigma around addictions and facilitate better integration into the community.
The Position
BISN is at an exciting stage of growth. We are formalizing and expanding our social enterprise initiatives, strengthening our business development strategies, and deepening our impact in the community. To drive this important work forward, we are seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual to join our team as the Enterprise Growth Manager.
The Enterprise Growth Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping and expanding two of BISN's social enterprise initiatives, which provide meaningful employment and training opportunities for individuals facing barriers to employment.

- Woodworking
This role requires a blend of entrepreneurial spirit, strategic thinking, and a commitment to social impact. The successful candidate will oversee business development, build partnerships, support operations and program participants, and develop new opportunities to ensure these enterprises are financially sustainable while meeting their social impact goals. This position seeks to:
(1) Work alongside external consultants to lead business development and sales efforts to secure new contracts, build a robust customer pipeline, and increase the financial selfsufficiency of BISN's social enterprise activities.
(2) Support the Social Enterprise Coordinator to ensure all orders are fulfilled while optimizing production and distribution workflows for efficiency.
(3) Foster a supportive, safe, and empowering work environment that provides meaningful employment, training opportunities, and skills development for all social enterprise participants alongside BISN's team.
(4) Strategically balance the dual objectives of the enterprise activities to create a sustainable and scalable model which contributes to BISN's impact in the community.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development and Sales (60%)
- Execute a sales and marketing strategy to increase revenue and market presence for social enterprise activities.
- Identify and cultivate new business leads, community partnerships, and sales channels with various audiences.
- Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with new and existing customers. - Manage online sales platforms, marketing efforts, and other channels to promote products and services.
- Track sales performance against targets and provide regular updates to leadership on sales activities.
Operational and Programmatic Support (25%)
- Work in close collaboration with the Social Enterprise Coordinator to support day-to-day operations and ensure customer orders are fulfilled.
- Support the implementation of health and safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff and clients.
- Identify opportunities and strategies for increased efficiency, cost-effectiveness, business growth and sustainability.
- Other duties as assigned to support the charitable mandate of the organization.
Client Support & Mentorship (15%)
- Contributes to a positive, trauma-informed, and inclusive work environment that promotes personal and professional development growth for clients.
- Work alongside BISN staff to provide mentorship, support and training to clients employed through enterprise activities.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, or a related field. Other equivalent education and/or professional experience may be considered.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in a role with business development, sales, entrepreneurship, or relevant leadership roles.
- Interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working with and supporting individuals who face barriers to employment (e.g. experience in social work, community services, or a similar non-profit setting).
- A working understanding of and/or experience applying trauma-informed approaches, harm reduction and/or lived/living experience with addiction.
- Organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
Assets
- Direct experience, passion and/or skills in food production and growing and/or woodworking field.
- Strong financial literacy, with experience in quoting, budgeting, and financial tracking.
- Experience in developing, marketing, supporting and/or growing a program that generates revenue within a charity
- Previous experience working in an isolated community.
Additional Considerations
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
- Willingness to undertake continuing education and training as offered through the role.
- Code of Conduct and vulnerable sector check is mandatory.
Salary and Benefits $65,000- $70,000
The position reports to the Project Manager, who reports to the board of directors. It is supported by the Social Enterprise Coordinator and Peer Support Coordinator in operations and programming, and external consultants for business development.
The position is funded by a major grant from Health Canada until March 31, 2028.
The place of employment is BISN’s Peer Support Centre (“The Hug”) in Wabana. And the start date is as soon as possible. The incumbent will be required to work from BISN, on Bell Island.
